TMNT: Mutant Mayhem Concept Art For Scrapped Shredder Villain Revealed

Warning: SPOILERS ahead for Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles: Mutant Mayhem!

New Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles: Mutant Mayhem concept art shows off the many design ideas that were considered for the classic TMNT villain Shredder. The new movie introduces a modern iteration of the Turtles, who battle a villain named Superfly that wants to turn every animal into mutants that can take over the world. This new antagonist helped establish this new version of the Turtles, making way for classic villains like Shredder later on.

Now, character designer Justin Runfola has revealed concept art for Shredder, who briefly appeared in Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles: Mutant Mayhem‘s post-credits scene.

Runfola’s art reveals the various design ideas that were considered for Shredder in the film. While some retain his classic armor from previous versions of the franchise, others show him without a mask or in more casual attire. Take a closer look at the concept art for Shredder below:

Shredder appears in the new film during a mid-credits scene, in which Cynthia Utrom tasks him with hunting down the Turtles and bringing them to her. At the end of the movie, though, the Turtles began attending high school, hanging up their crime-fighting masks for a chance at a normal life. This means that, inevitably, their time as high schoolers will be interrupted by Cynthia and her plan to recapture them.

The mid-credits scene all but confirms Shredder will be the main villain in Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles: Mutant Mayhem 2. However, it’s just as possible that he makes his debut in the Paramount+ series Tales of the Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles, which serves as a bridge between both films. No matter when he first fights the Turtles, though, Shredder’s appearance opens the door for plenty of other classic Turtles villains to appear in the future.

While the ending of the latest film teases Shredder will have his classic armor, it’s unclear what he will look like during his first full appearance. Perhaps Runfola’s concept art can act as a clue to discovering Shredder’s new design. No matter what Shredder looks like, he will prove to be a formidable opponent in the Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles: Mutant Mayhem universe.
