TMNT Confirms Which Sibling Is Destined to Become a Badass Cyborg

Warning: Contains SPOILERS for Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles #147! The Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles are venturing through time and space on the Road to 150 in their pursuit to stop the time-eating cosmic shark Armaggon. The Turtles have no choice but to hop around the timeline in the hopes they can outmaneuver this time-sliding villain. After one such time-jump, Donatello and Venus wind up in a cyberpunk future, where they encounter a version of one of the TMNT siblings who’s gotten a badass cyborg upgrade.

In Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles #147 by Sophie Campbell and Vincenzo Federici, Donatello and Venus (along with their mutanimal companion, Bob) have just escaped the jaws of Armaggon. They were at the Timestress Citadel in Null-Time when the cosmic shark tracked them, forcing the mutant heroes to jump through a quickly conjured portal into an unknown time. It’s there that they met a future version of one of their siblings, one who apparently became a cyborg: Jennika.

The timeline they arrived in was unlike anything fans have seen since the start of TMNT’s historic Road to 150. Rather than desolation, this future is one of cybernetic enhancement, and liberation for all mutanimals. No longer is their home ‘Mutant Town’, but instead it has grown into ‘Mutant City’, where innovation and technological advancement is free to flourish. And the one who is about to give Donnie and Venus the grand tour is their newly cybernetic sibling.

TMNT Discover Jennika Is A Cyborg During Their Ongoing Battle Against Armaggon

Armaggon first presented itself as the Ninja Turtles’ ultimate threat during the previous TMNT event, The Armageddon Game. While the Ninja Turtles were learning kuji-kiri (a form of ancient magic) to stop the Rat King, Donatello accidentally jumps through time and finds himself in a desolate future. It’s there where he sees future versions of himself and Venus, only for that timeline to be consumed by Armaggon, which happened only moments before Donnie was pulled back into his original time period.

From that moment on, even with the looming threat of the Rat King – which has since been neutralized – Donatello has been obsessed with finding a way to stop Armaggon. Since Raphael, Leonardo, Michelangelo, and Jennika have all but abandoned kuji-kiri since the Rat King was defeated, Donnie has primarily partnered up with Venus, who’s essentially a magic expert. Together, Donatello and Venus are sliding through time, hoping to find a way to stop Armaggon. And now, they’ve ended up in an all-new time period, one where their sister Jennika is a cyborg.

Cyborg Jennika Could Be TMNT’s Greatest Ally, or Deadliest Foe

TMNT's Cyborg Jennika welcoming her siblings to Mutant City.

It seems safe to say that there are two definitive options for how Cyborg Jennika’s character will be handled in the upcoming issues: friend or foe. Cyborg Jennika could become a powerful ally, not only by offering the Turtles refuge in their mission through time, but perhaps by joining them in the fight against Armaggon. Or, perhaps Cyborg Jennika is a villain, having replaced her humanity with cold machinery. Maybe she wants the power to slide through time at will, and maybe she’s willing to kill the past versions of her siblings to get it.

While it’s too early to tell if Cyborg Jennika will be a friend or foe to the TMNT, it is certain that fans will learn more about her and her time period in the next issue, where the quest to defeat Armaggon will continue onward as well. But, no matter what the future holds, the fact that Jennika got a gnarly cyborg upgrade in Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles canon alone is badass enough.
