The nigh-on omnipotent evolution is typically represented by a white costume instead of white hair, but Titans season 4, episode 2’s ending may be building towards the proper White Raven appearing further down the line.
Why Raven’s Hair Goes White In Titans Season 4
Titans season 4 is yet to reveal the full extent of Mother Mayhem’s plan, although audiences can already deduce it involves both Joseph Morgan as Sebastian Blood and Raven herself. During the Titans vs. Mother Mayhem fight that caps off season 4, episode 2, Raven launches her standard black tendrils toward Mayhem, who draws the darkness into her staff, causing Rachel to collapse and her hair to discolor. Given these circumstances, Mother Mayhem may have absorbed Raven’s powers, temporarily removing them from her body. That would explain Raven’s red forehead stone, which first appeared when she finally manifested her powers in Titans season 1, disappearing, while the white hair could represent the separation from Trigon that comes from being powerless.
If Titans season 4 follows its source material, then Mother Mayhem’s plan involves uniting Raven and Brother Blood in unholy matrimony, thus unleashing an apocalyptic power upon Earth. The appearance of White Raven in Titans season 4 would mark the culmination of Rachel Roth’s Titans journey, as she finally attains complete mastery over her powers and independence from the darkness that has followed her since episode 1. More forebodingly, White Raven rising to the surface implies a major threat will emerge in Titans season 4 – and not just an angry witch playing teenage matchmaker. Rachel’s powers, the Church of Blood, and the White Raven transformation all point toward the return of Trigon in Titans season 4, and Raven will certainly need her purified upgrade if she has any hope of sending her deadbeat dad back to hell.
Titans season 4 bringing White Raven into live-action does potentially create a problem for potential future seasons on HBO Max. Raven is already an extremely powerful character who can make short work of almost any villain Titans throws her way. Kicking Rachel up a gear into White Raven risks making her more overpowered than Superboy, and Titans may struggle to find many DC bad guys capable of posing a threat if Rachel’s true, innermost powers do eventually awaken.
