2K and Gearbox have revealed new details on Tiny Tina’s Wonderlands, introducing the world’s overseer, Her Royal Majesty Queen Butt Stallion. Fans of the Borderlands games probably expected some of the series’ humor to continue in the upcoming Borderlands spin-off, and Queen Butt Stallion might be one of the most memorable characters in the franchise so far.
Tiny Tina’s Wonderlands will whisk players on a fantasy first-person shooter adventure based on a tabletop role-playing game. Set in the Wonderlands, the game will put Tiny Tina in the role of dungeon master, possessing the ability to change the game’s world whenever she desires. The release will feature Tina’s handcrafted tabletop Overworld map, complete with miniatures, which will offer a third-person, bird’s-eye-view of the land when players aren’t engaged in combat or exploring the world in first-person. Tiny Tina’s Wonderlands will offer deep character customization with six different player classes available.
Gearbox and 2K have given fans their first taste of Tiny Tina’s Wonderlands‘ ruler, Her Royal Majesty Queen Butt Stallion. In a PlayWonderlands game guide, the developer reveals Queen Butt Stallion to be a “magical diamond binicorn,” a mythical being with two horns, unlike a unicorn. Queen Butt Stallion is described as “the most smartest, prettiest, perfectest ruler that ever lived,” noting that her arch-nemesis is the Dragon Lord, who tries to cover the Wonderlands in darkness every few hundred years. Queen Butt Stallion rules from the capital city of Brighthoof’s Castle Sparklewithers, a castle that “glows so brightly, the queendom is bathed in eternal light!“
Queen Butt Stallion’s exact role in Tiny Tina’s Wonderlands isn’t fully clear, but it seems she’s set to side with the player and a Party of Heroes to battle against the Dragon Lord. Details on the mysterious Dragon Lord haven’t yet been announced, though the official game website states that more character profiles and art will be revealed soon. Players will get to meet Her Royal Majesty Queen Butt Stallion, along with the rest of the game’s colorful cast, when it launches next year.
With the humor of Borderlands in an all-new fantasy setting, Tiny Tina’s Wonderlands is already looking like one of the most promising games of 2022. A first-person shooter set in a tabletop world is a unique premise and should expand upon the ideas seen in the Borderlands 2 DLC, Tiny Tina’s Assault on Dragon Keep.
