Timothée Chalamet’s Best DC Movie Casting Would Revive The DCEU’s Lost Batman Movie

Timothée Chalamet’s Best DC Movie Casting Would Revive The DCEU’s Lost Batman Movie

Timothée Chalamet’s recent comments about superhero movies confirm that his best DC project would be a revived Batman Beyond live-action project. As it stands, Chalamet has yet to star in any superhero movie, be it in the MCU, DCU, or elsewhere. While he’s revealed some key reasons as to why, playing a live-action Terry McGinnis who evolves into the future’s Dark Knight might just be the role he’d agree to take on.

There’s no question that Timothée Chalamet is one of the biggest stars in Hollywood right now, largely in part due to his lead role as Paul Atredies in 2021’s Dune and its new sequel. As such, it’s not surprising that the actor was asked about any potential superhero roles Chalamet might have been offered during an interview promoting Dune: Part Two. To that end, his answer was rather intriguing, supporting the idea that TimothéeChalamet’s ideal superhero role might just be Batman Beyond’s version of DC’s Caped Crusader.

How To Watch DCEU Movies In Order (By Release Date & Chronologically)

The DCEU’s timeline may be about to be rebooted in the DC Universe, but here’s how to watch the DCEU in release order or chronological order.

Timothee Chalamet Has Some Conditions About Being In A Superhero Movie

Needs To Be The Right Circumstances

In an interview with The NY Times, Chalamet revealed his perspective on superhero movies and how he’s so far been staying away from them:

Well, Leonardo DiCaprio said to me, ‘No superhero movies, no hard drugs.’ Which I thought was very good. I follow them both!

That said, Chalamet went on to say that if he were to ever consider starring in a superhero movie, it would have to be under the right circumstances. Firstly, the movie would need to have a good story, as well as a good director. As with any movie genre, there are plenty of superhero movies that are great, while others can massively bomb. Likewise, the variety of different of stories that can be told within the superhero space is vast. While not every single one is going to resonate with audiences, some absolutely do and have with great success, and the same goes for directors as well. As such, it may be just a matter of finding the right story and director before Chalamet agrees to wear a mask of any kind.

Timothee Chalamet’s Dark Knight Inspiration Is Encouraging For The DCU

Inspired By Christopher Nolan’s The Dark Knight

Chalamet also went on to say that Christopher Nolan’s The Dark Knight is what originally inspired him to become an actor. The second movie in Nolan’s Dark Knight trilogy starring Christian Bale as Batman and Heath Ledger as the Joker, the 2008 film is still seen as one of the greatest and most grounded superhero movies of all time. Having won multiple awards (including Ledger who earned on Ocar), The Dark Knight is the epitome of a superhero movie having one of the best stories combined with one of Hollywood’s best directors (whom Chalamet worked with on 2014’s Interstellar).

To that end, this is also a possible sign that some sort of Batman-related DC project would be maybe be more appealing to Chalamet down the line as opposed to some other superhero project. With the rebooted DCU set to officially begin with its first movie in 2025, there’s certainly plenty of room and opportunity for new roles and takes on classic DC Comics characters, some of whom have never made it to the big-screen before. However, the best Batman project for Chalamet wouldn’t necessarily have to be in the new DCU at all.

A Live-Action Batman Beyond Movie Would Be Perfect For Timothee Chalamet

An Isolated Elseworlds Project With Greater Freedom

All things considered, something like a live-action Batman Beyond movie could be perfect for Timothée Chalamet. Although it was canceled during the old regime with the DCEU, a Batman Beyond project was reportedly in development with Michael Keaton set to reprise his role as an older Bruce Wayne (following his previous appearance in 2023’s The Flash as well as in Batgirl which was canceled as well). Adapting the original animated series, a retired Bruce Wayne trains young Terry McGinnis to become a new Batman for the next generation, a part Chalamet could easily fit without question.

Given the original show’s setting in the future, a live-action Batman Beyond movie could also be an incredibly dynamic Elseworlds project (isolated stories which will still be produced according to James Gunn despite the new DCU). As such, playing Terry McGinnis in an Elseworlds Batman Beyond movie wouldn’t necessarily tie Chalamet to a grander universe or long-term franchise with DC Studios, an idea that might very well make the role more attractive for the major Hollywood actor as well (along with the aforementioned requirement of a good story and great director).
