TikTok Now: How To Share Your Daily Photo Or Video Update

TikTok has added a BeReal-inspired feature called ‘TikTok Now,’ and it’s effortless to use. Social media is full of deceptive content. Feeds across all platforms are full of excessively edited videos that are heavily filtered. It’s a breath of fresh air when a creator gives users a glimpse into their real life. Now, several social media platforms are capitalizing on a more authentic experience.

Platforms have tried to harness the uniqueness of the competing app, BeReal. Instagram rolled out a dual-camera feature after noticing the success of BeReal but missed the mark. Snapchat also included its own BeReal-esque function. TikTok has now joined in on the fun and given the feature a dedicated feed on the app called ‘Now.’

TikTok Now is all about timing. Like BeReal, TikTok will send a daily prompt with an allotted time to share a dual-camera picture or video. Once the ‘Time to Now‘ notification appears, head into the app and choose the ‘Now‘ tab at the bottom of the app. Tap on ‘Post today’s Now‘ and TikTok’s dual-camera function will activate. Users will notice the record button is blue, indicating they are taking a Now picture or video. Press the button to either take a picture or record a 10-second video. The front camera will capture a selfie, while the main camera will capture the scene in front of the user. Once the shot has been taken, post it for friends to enjoy.

No Filters, Purely Authentic

There are some features during a TikTok Now post users will notice are missing, such as filters and effects. What users enjoy about BeReal is the authenticity of the posts that captures them in their current environment without any editing involved. It seems that Bytedance noted what made the competing app so appealing. It also separates the Now feed from regular TikTok videos, unlike Instagram and Snapchat’s attempts to capture BeReal’s success.

As soon as a TikTok Now is posted, it will appear in the new ‘Now’ feed, which replaces the Friends menu. Don’t worry, the Friends section is still available. Similarly to the Home menu, the ‘Now’ tab is divided into two sections, ‘Friends’ and ‘Now.’ However, if a user misses the window to share their Now creation, they will not be able to view the Now feed. Once the user participates, they will gain access to their friend’s Now posts for that day’s event. So the next time a TikTok Now notification appears, be sure not to miss out on the action.
