TikTok Duets Vs. Snapchat Remixes: How Do The Reshare Tools Differ?

TikTok Duets Vs. Snapchat Remixes: How Do The Reshare Tools Differ?

TikTok’s Duets feature has been cloned by Snapchat as a new ‘Remix’ feature. Remixes will allow users to reshare the Stories of their friends with their own recordings played alongside. TikTok’s explosive success has seen its features copied by a variety of other social media platforms and Snapchat too has seen others put their own spin on its features.

On TikTok, Duets allow users to record reactions or responses alongside the short video — or TikToks — of other users who have enabled the feature. Duets are usually made to hop on trends that are developing in the app, with users singing or dancing along with other TikTokers. Additionally, users like to record their own responses to other TikToks, voicing their own opinions or following trends. The Duets feature is easy to use, with users simply clicking the Share icon under a TikTok and navigating to the Duets icon before recording their response. The feature has become a great tool for helping TikToks to go viral.

As TechCrunch reports, similar functionality is now being developed by Snapchat. Its Remix tool will allow users to record their own response alongside the existing Story of a Snapchat friend. Current capabilities that are being considered include being able to use horizontally and vertically split layouts, overlay content on a video, and react to a Snap. Additionally, a tweet by mobile developer and leaker Alessandro Paluzzi suggests that Snapchat may let users only allow people they’ve mentioned in a Story to Remix it.

TikTok Duets & Snapchat Remixes Similarities & Differences

TikTok Duets Vs. Snapchat Remixes: How Do The Reshare Tools Differ?

Snapchat Remixes and TikTok Duets have a couple of similarities. For example, Duets already allow horizontal split, vertical split, three-screen, and react layouts. Additionally, both features allow users to record videos in response to other videos. However, there are a few differences between Duets and Remixes.

Right now, Snapchat Remixes are used only with friends on the app, making them more of a conversation tool rather than being for reactions or collaborations on dance, song, and video trends, a large aspect of which TikTok revolves around. Duets serve as a way to boost the videos of TikTok creators. Although Snapchat Remixes are centered around Stories for now, Snapchat also has its own TikTok-like feature, Spotlight, which could utilize the capability in the future.
