As Dynamite Entertainment’s new ThunderCats series heads for its second issue, the franchise is officially adding a new character to its core cast of heroes. Dynamite has revealed the name and design of new character Calica,
In a press release from Dynamite, the publisher has revealed that new Thundercat Calica will join the story in the upcoming ThunderCats #2. The character is described as “A potential love interest for a Lion-O trying to mature and establish himself as a worthy leader, Calica’s story could go any number of ways in the forthcoming chapters and story arcs…”
Helmed by Declan Shalvey and Drew Moss, ThunderCats has been a runaway success. Early news revealed that the new ThunderCats #1 had passed a jaw-dropping 170k in sales, with the publisher now revealing that the issue has completely sold out and will be going into a second printing. The comic continuity depicts the ThunderCats finding their way during their first days on Thundera, with Lion-O only now wielding the Sword of Omens.

Dynamite’s press release confirm the character is designed on the appearance of Calico cats, and will be discovered in the wreckage of a Mu’Tant ship, with the issue itself revealing part of her backstory. However, Calica won’t be trusted by all the ThunderCats, leading to a major feud between Lion-O and Panthro.
Writer Declan Shalvey says:
Not only has it been great to play with the classic ThunderCats characters, having the opportunity to contribute to the lore has been a wonderful experience. Especially with introducing Calica (and her unique, yet naturally fitting design courtesy of Drew Moss) who will add a new dynamic that will keep the ThunderCats (and readers) on their toes.
