Thrawn’s Star Wars Comic Teases His TRUE Mission

Thrawn’s Star Wars Comic Teases His TRUE Mission

For a villain as famous as Grand Admiral Thrawn, it’s no surprise that even his own comic series is revealing new mysteries in its final issue. That’s according to our preview of Star Wars: Thrawn #6, the final issue in the limited series from Marvel, chronicling the first chapters of Thrawn’s encounters and ascendance through the Imperial Navy.

Having been discovered as an apparent castaway on a far-off planet, the blue-skinned alien named Mitth’raw’nuruodo is more than he seems. In just five issues, he’s almost risen to his eventual post as Grand Admiral of the Imperial Navy, and right-hand military tactician to the Emperor himself.

Which even outdoes his original mission, as a covert operative of the Chiss Ascendancy.

Some fans may already know this story, having recently read it told in Timothy Zahn’s Thrawn novel, setting his new origin story right up to the events of Star Wars: Rebels. Well, almost up to. Another Thrawn novel Dark Alliances will see Thrawn and Anakin Skywalker first cross paths. But before then, there’s the final issue of his debut comic adaptation to cover.

Take a look at the preview pages below:

Thrawn’s Star Wars Comic Teases His TRUE Mission

The extension of membership in the Chiss Ascendancy to an outsider remains one of the lingering questions in the new Star Wars canon. The role played by Thrawn in Star Wars: Rebels is apparently over, for now. And left on enough of a cliffhanger for fans to wonder when, how, and where Thrawn’s story in the new Star Wars saga will continue. Presumably, that will be the time when more details about the new, canonical Chiss are offered.

The mysterious civilization is tied to the larger mysteries of the Unknown Regions – a location more important than ever, thanks to the TV series, novels, and new Episode films. For the time being, the Star Wars storytellers aren’t giving up any larger plans or stories unless they have to, which makes Thrawn one of the most compelling figured (now that Supreme Leader Snoke has kicked the bucket).

Assuming that the Chiss Ascendancy is a power worth acknowledging sooner or later, and grasping how much Rebels has changed Star Wars‘ future, Thrawn is just as revered a brand as he is a villain. Here’s hoping the last issue of the comic adaptation can offer up at least a glimmer of what comes next. Or possibly even answers, even if it means infinitely more questions along with them.
