Thor’s Worthiness Was Just Taken to The Next Level in The Marvel Universe

As the latest Marvel character to receive judgment from a Celestial, Thor was just deemed worthy in a big way. In A.X.E.: Judgment Day by Marvel Comics, the God of Thunder faces his own ruling from the Celestial reawakened on Earth. However, after reading the inscription on Thor’s hammer, Mjolnir, the Celestial determined that Thor has to be worthy, leading him to pass his judgment, unlike some of his fellow Marvel heroes.

In the current Judgment Day event at Marvel Comics, the Celestial Progenitor was reawakened in the war between the Eternals and X-Men in a last-ditch effort to stop the chaos. However, upon returning from the dead, the Celestial declared that everyone had 24 hours on Earth to prove themselves worthy, or they would all die. The Celestial has deemed Daredevil, Captain America, Professor X, and several Eternals among those who are unworthy, while Doctor Doom is among those deemed worthy in his eyes. However, if the scales tip towards more inhabitants of Earth not being worthy, the planet will be destroyed. But, if the world is annihilated, it won’t be because of Thor, as his worthiness was taken to the next level thanks to Mjolnir and his judgment.

In a new preview for A.X.E.: Judgment Day #4 by Kieron Gillen, Valerio Schiti, Marte Gracia, and VC’s Clayton Cowles, the Progenitor continues to give judgment across the Marvel Universe, with Luke Cage and Miles Morales failing and passing, respectively. When the Celestial reaches Thor fighting the Hex, he observes the fight and reads his hammer, Mjolnir, determining the inscription is truthful. The Celestial admits that, by definition, Thor must be worthy.

While Judgment Day can fix the Avengers, unlike some of his fellow heroes, Thor’s judgment from the Progenitor ends up being relatively quick and without much conflict or questions. The Celestial read the inscription on Thor’s hammer, Mjolnir, and determined that he had to be worthy, considering he could wield the powerful weapon. So, in the eyes of the cosmic god, the God of Thunder’s worthiness extends to his judgment.

Thor has long been worthy of his hammer, Mjolnir, but it remains interesting that the Celestial took the inscription of his hammer as a fact – even if it’s true. The Progenitor has passed judgment and failed many Marvel heroes, including Iron Man, for the most specific reasons. Still, in Thor’s case, the Celestial doesn’t need to see more than his hammer to determine he’s truly worthy. As a result, Thor’s worthiness reaches a new level as his Celestial judgment has arrived.
