Thor’s Stellar Armor Was Forged to Destroy Galactus

The Mighty Thor is one of the most powerful beings in the Marvel Universe, but when he went up against both Galactus and the Silver Surfer, he needed a forged armor made specifically for the occasion. When Galactus got wind of a powerful cosmic artifact present on Asgard, he sought to steal it from Odin and consume it, hoping that it would satiate his perpetual hunger. Instead of letting that happen, Thor and a number of other Asgardian soldiers suited up and challenged Galactus in an epic space battle, one that put Thor’s Stellar Armor to the test.

In The Mighty Thor #3 by Matt Fraction and Olivier Coipel, Odin has called all of Asgard to prepare for war against Galactus and the Silver Surfer. Galactus will stop at nothing to have and consume the Worldheart, otherwise known as Galactus Seed, as the power it contains is of the World Tree and could be enough to end Galactus’ constant need to feed on planets. What Galactus doesn’t know is that the seed has the power to create an entirely new reality while simultaneously causing the end of the current one and Odin cannot take the chance by giving Galactus the seed, no matter how many planets he may save if it worked for the Devourer of Worlds. So, the only option left was war and Thor had the perfect armor forged for the occasion.

Thor’s Stellar Armor was designed specifically to fight the Silver Surfer and Galactus, making its first appearance in The Mighty Thor #3. However, it wasn’t until the next issue where fans got to see the suit in action. During the battle with Galactus and the Silver Surfer, Galactus and Odin engage in mental combat, infiltrating each other’s minds and using their own memories against the other. Meanwhile, Thor is putting his newly forged Stellar Armor to the test by fighting the Silver Surfer, but after he outmaneuvered the cosmic Herald, he flew at Galactus head-on. Like a bullet fired from a gun, Thor launched himself at Galactus and flew through his head, a blow that didn’t kill the godly being but one that weakened him and left Galactus open to a head-butt to the face, courtesy of Odin.

Thor’s Stellar Armor Was Forged to Destroy Galactus

Thor’s Stellar Armor wasn’t only a suit that gave Thor the added power to take on a cosmic being such as Galactus, but it was also one of Thor’s coolest looking suits to date. The armor has futuristic and medieval look with glowing rings of power on the chest and plated metal across the body. Basically, the Stellar Armor looked extremely intimidating and just plain awesome especially when it is shown being worn in battle.

While the Stellar Armor is short lived in Marvel Comics, it certainly left its mark not only on Galactus and the Silver Surfer but on fans as well. From the suit’s aesthetic to its functionality, Thor’s Stellar Armor, which was forged specifically to fight Galactus, became a truly iconic piece of Asgardian armor in its own right.
