Thor’s New Armor Can Explain A Returning Infinity War Character

Thor’s new armor for Thor: Love and Thunder can explain the return of Avengers: Infinity War‘s character Eitri (Peter Dinklage). For his first appearance since Avengers: Endgame, Chris Hemsworth’s solo movie has a cast that could rival Avengers 5. The God of Thunder will still be at the forefront of Thor: Love and Thunder‘s story, but so too will be Jane Foster (Natalie Portman) as she becomes Mighty Thor. That said, these two Thors are just the tip of the iceberg regarding familiar Marvel Cinematic Universe characters who will appear.

The Avengers-level cast for Thor: Love and Thunder includes franchise stalwarts like Valkyrie (Tessa Thompson) and Lady Sif (Jaimie Alexander), but it is also known that the Guardians of the Galaxy will return. This will give audiences a chance to see more of the character dynamics originally seen in Avengers: Infinity War as the Guardians saved Thor and worked with him throughout the movie. It was during this journey that Thor, Rocket, and Groot encountered Eitri, the towering dwarf who forged Stormbreaker. There are now rumors that Eitri is in Thor 4 as well, but it is not clear what role he would play.

Although the first instinct for many might be to tie Eitri to the return of Mjolnir, all indications are that Jane Foster gets the powerful hammer restored in a different fashion. Thankfully, some teases from Thor: Love and Thunder may provide an explanation for Peter Dinklage’s return after Avengers: Infinity War. Promo art for Thor 4 revealed a brand new suit for Thor Odinson. The blue and yellow armor is reminiscent of Thor’s Battle Armor from the comics. The suit was designed to help Thor fight his most powerful opponents, but it was surprisingly forged in a Pittsburgh steel mill. Marvel Studios putting its own spin on the armor could explain Eitri’s Thor: Love and Thunder return.

The MCU always makes changes when it comes to adapting characters, stories, or ideas from the comics, and changing the origin behind Thor’s Battle Armor is an obvious one to make. The comic version of Thor has a greater connection to Earth due to the frequent time he spent on this planet, but the MCU has primarily kept him in the cosmos. For that reason, it would be strange for Thor’s Battle Armor to come from an Earth-based source. His previous armors are forged of Asgardian steel, which likely isn’t readily available due to Asgard’s destruction. In that sense, it makes sense that Thor could potentially return to Nidavellir and ask for Eitri’s help in crafting a new armor.

If Thor: Love and Thunder uses Eitri to create Thor’s new armor, it could make him even more powerful than ever before. Eitri previously created Stormbreaker in Avengers: Infinity War and an Infinity Gauntlet and Mjolnir before that. His known weapons are among the deadliest in all the galaxy, so that logic indicates just how strong armor forged in the same fashion could be. This would be beneficial for Thor as he battles Gorr the God Butcher (Christian Bale) in Thor: Love and Thunder.
