Thor: Love & Thunder Trailer May Have Spoiled A Huge MCU Death

Marvel may have already spoiled a huge death thanks to the Thor: Love and Thunder trailer. The Marvel Cinematic Universe Phase 4 movie has the potential to kill several prominent characters thanks to the inclusion of Gorr the God Butcher as the main villain. Christian Bale’s powerful new MCU villain went toe-to-toe with Chris Hemsworth’s Thor in the first Thor: Love and Thunder trailer to feature Gorr, and the movie’s marketing has already teased one casualty that may happen along the way.

The fun and comedic tone of Thor: Ragnarok helped mask just how much death occurred in Taika Waitit’s first MCU movie. Thor: Love and Thunder seems poised to double down on potential casualties with the presence of Gorr the God Butcher. The movie has to show how Christian Bale’s villain earned that title, which means he’ll be victorious in killing some gods. One of his victims has already been seen in the trailers, but there has long been speculation that Gorr could be responsible for killing off some major MCU characters, including Hemsworth’s God of Thunder himself.

Now, the Thor: Love and Thunder trailer has potentially spoiled a huge MCU death that will come courtesy of Gorr. Footage shows glimpses of an epic battle between Valkyrie and Gorr, and Valkyrie’s weapon of choice is particularly interesting. She’s wielding a lightning bolt that comes from Russell Crowe’s Zeus. This detail indicates that the powerful Greek god is nearby and involved with Valkyrie and Gorr’s fight. With the Thor: Love and Thunder trailer secretly revealing that Zeus is in close proximity to Gorr–or perhaps has already been a target of the God Butcher–Russell Crowe’s character’s death looks all the more likely.

There are a few different reasons why Valkyrie could be using one of Zeus’ lightning bolts in the Love & Thunder trailer to fight Gorr (likely in Olympus), but none of them are all that promising for his fate. Valkyrie could be fighting Gorr using one of Zeus’ weapons as a means of trying to protect him. However, she might also be attempting to avenge the slain Greek god, taking up his lightning in his honor.

In any case, Zeus’ chance of surviving Thor: Love and Thunder was always going to be small. Now that he’s been linked to a battle with Gorr in some fashion, his death becomes all the more likely. Russell Crowe is a big star and Zeus is very powerful, so Gorr killing him will be a big moment for Thor: Love and Thunder. After all, Gorr has to earn his God Butcher title somehow, and Zeus’ death can help establish just how big a threat he is.
