Thor Hilariously Calls Out Tesla’s Biggest Gaffe

Warning: Spoilers for Roxxon Presents: Thor (2024) #1 ahead!Roxxon’s corporate vision of Thor is as hilarious as it is disturbing, as the sinister company attempts to subvert Thor’s legend into “techbro” buffoonery. No target escapes ridicule, including real-life automaker Tesla’s strangest product: the grandiosely named Cybertruck.

Roxxon Presents: Thor (2024) #1 (by the Roxxon-ized team of Al Ewing, Greg Land, Jay Leisten, Frank D’Armata, and Joe Sabino) reinterprets the God of Thunder as the Roxxon-sponsored meathead, “Chad Hammer.” This version of Thor is quick to promote Roxxon’s ridiculous products on nearly every panel, including his particularly moronic vehicle, the “Thor-Truck.”

Boasting an array of useless features like the complete lack of door handles and getting a mere nine miles to the gallon, the Thor-Truck is clearly a jab at Tesla’s Cybertruck product.

Thor Thrashes Tesla’s Cybertruck

Tesla Cybertruck driving on a road

Introduced in 2019 and sent to market by 2023, the Tesla Cybertruck has been the butt of endless jokes and memes due to its odd design and seemingly never-ending parade of faults and issues. From its “unbreakable” windows shattering upon their first demonstration, concerns about its stainless steel exterior rusting in the rain, bizarre add-ons, and a slew of safety recalls, the Cybertruck has become emblematic of the tech-sector’s hubris and penchant for putting profit over practicality. As such, it fits right into Roxxon’s Thor pastiche alongside “Mjölnir Premium” and the “Riskmaxx Trading App.”

There is a dark side to poking fun at such easy targets, however. As Thor’s captor, Roxxon CEO Dario Agger, points out in a sinister aside, parody is an effective weapon: “A brand that takes itself seriously is mocked – a brand that mocks itself has free rein.Roxxon Presents: Thor uses products like the Cybertruck to acknowledge the ludicrous nature of the modern corporate climate while also warning readers not to become too complacent.

Roxxon has long been Marvel’s stand-in for evil corporate culture, but its on-the-nose vision of fully corporatized America is arguably the company’s most blatant mission statement yet. While every product in Roxxon Presents: Thor is exaggerated to the point of parody, there remain clear parallels to real-life products and expressions of real-life corporate attitudes. Roxxon’s Thor may take some deliciously pointed jabs at Tesla’s ridiculous Cybertruck – but the jokes only land because they are far too close to reality for comfort.
