Thor 5 Is Going To Be The Biggest Hero Fight Since Iron Man vs. Cap

Thor 5 Is Going To Be The Biggest Hero Fight Since Iron Man vs. Cap

Warning: SPOILERS for Thor: Love and Thunder

The mid-credits scene of Thor: Love and Thunder sets up the biggest fight in the Marvel Cinematic Universe for Thor 5: Thor (Chris Hemsworth) vs. Hercules (Brett Goldstein)! In director Taika Waititi’s MCU sequel, the God of Thunder teams up with Jane Foster AKA the Mighty Thor (Natalie Portman) and King Valkyrie (Tessa Thompson) to stop Gorr the God Butcher (Christian Bale). But a pivotal scene where Thor runs afoul of Zeus (Russell Crowe) will lead to a showdown of godly proportions in Thor 5.

The MCU has had no shortage of superhero slugfests. Thor, Captain America (Chris Hemsworth), and Iron Man (Robert Downey Jr.) laid the smackdown on each other when they first met in The Avengers. Iron Man utilized the Hulk-Buster to take on the rampaging Hulk (Mark Ruffalo) in Avengers: Age of Ultron. Afterward, Captain America: Civil War saw the Avengers split into sides and go into battle against each other, with match-ups like Captain America vs. Spider-Man (Tom Holland) thrilling audiences. But Civil War really boiled down to Iron Man vs. Captain America in their climactic showdown. Although Bucky Barnes (Sebastian Stan) was in that fight, it was the breakdown of Steve Rogers and Tony Stark’s trust and friendship that left the Avengers shattered for years. The MCU has seen other superhero fights since then, especially in the Multiverse of Marvel’s What If…?, but Iron Man vs. Captain America still divides fans about whether Team Iron Man or Team Cap was right to this day.

In Thor: Ragnarok, the Grandmaster (Jeff Goldblum) forced Thor into an epic fight against Hulk in the Contest of Champions, but otherwise, it’s been a while since the God of Thunder has taken on a fellow superhero or a god. Thor is now one of the few original Avengers still flying high in the MCU and after overcoming the God Butcher, Thor needs a new challenge. Thor: Love and Thunder‘s credits promised “Thor Will Return” and, when he does, the table is set for an earth-shattering fight with a demigod as powerful as Thor is.

Thor: Love and Thunder Sets Up The MCU’s Biggest Ever Fight

Thor 5 Is Going To Be The Biggest Hero Fight Since Iron Man vs. Cap

In Thor: Love and Thunder, Thor, Mighty Thor, King Valkyrie, and Korg (Taika Waititi) travel to Omnipotent City, the home of the gods, to raise an army against Gorr. Their effort failed thanks to the hubris of Zeus, who holds court and exerts the most power and influence in Omnipotent City. Zeus was one of Thor’s heroes and inspirations, but the ruler of the Greek pantheon proved to be a disappointment to the Odinson. Thor’s plan shifted to swiping Zeus’ weapon, the Thunderbolt, and the God of Thunder believed he killed Zeus before taking it and escaping with his friends.

But as Thor: Love and Thunder‘s mid-credits scene revealed, it’s not so easy to kill a god, especially one as powerful as Zeus. Not only did Zeus survive, but he’s very angry and he summoned one of his many children to seek revenge for him. This turned out to be Hercules, the demigod who is renowned for his sheer power. Brett Goldstein from Ted Lasso playing Hercules is a pleasant surprise and his clever casting also clues in on how the mighty demigod will be portrayed in the MCU. As Roy Kent, Goldstein excels at playing an irascible and foul-mouthed hero who, nonetheless, has a heart of gold. Hercules hints at being a Marvel-ized extension of Goldstein’s popular Roy Kent character, and he’s already an ideal foil for Chris Hemsworth’s lighthearted and noble Thor.

Thor Vs. Hercules: Who Would Win?

Brett Goldstein Plays Hercules In The MCU

Hercules poses a major challenge to Thor. Although a demigod – half-mortal and half-god, Marvel’s Hercules was nursed by the divine breast milk of his stepmother, Hera, which boosted his already powerful physiology to godlike levels. In terms of sheer physical might, Hercules is one of the most powerful beings in the MCU, and he also possesses godlike stamina, agility, invulnerability, and a healing factor that makes him immortal from aging. Hercules also carries a golden mace that will be an important weapon to combat Thor’s hammer Mjolnir and his ax, Stormbreaker. It’s likely Hercules will also be able to wield and use Zeus’ Thunderbolt if he wrests it from Thor.

However, Thor has powers and abilities that Hercules lacks, such as his inherent godly power to summon lightning. The Odinson has shown many times that he’s one of the most powerful beings in the MCU, and Thor can level entire armies when he wants to. Yet Thor sometimes lacks a killer instinct and he’ll hesitate instead of going “for the head,” like he did against Thanos (Josh Brolin). Everything about Hercules in the MCU so far is conjecture, but the son of Zeus likely has no lack of a killer instinct. Hercules’ mythological and Marvel Comics feats make him, potentially, the most powerful enemy Thor will have ever faced. But Hercules also has a nasty temper and Thor, who has learned to master his own, can use Hercules’ rage against him. Thor vs. Hercules is poised to be the biggest MCU fight since Civil War and it’s the main event fight to look forward to in Thor 5.
