This Year’s Super Bowl Becomes The Most-Watched Telecast in TV History

Super Bowl LVIII sets a major television records for live broadcasts. The Kansas City Chiefs played the San Francisco 49ers in this year’s Super Bowl, with the Chiefs winning in overtime. As always, the Super Bowl evening was also replete with a halftime show (this year by Usher), notable ads, and a number of movie trailers.

As per Variety, this year’s Super Bowl has become the most-watched telecast in TV history. According to the source, the Super Bowl brought in 123.4 million viewers, setting the record for the most people ever watching a live broadcast. 112 million viewers tuned in via CBS directed, while the rest of the viewers watched via a combination of Paramount+, Nickelodeon, Univision, CBS Sports, and the NFL’s digital properties.

The Most Notable Trailer Releases At The Super Bowl

While the Super Bowl always brings in high viewing numbers, there were a variety of reasons why this year’s game may have been a particular draw. A huge driver was the allure of Taylor Swift, whose football player boyfriend Travis Kelce plays for the Kansas City Chiefs. In the weeks leading up to the Super Bowl, there was copious discourse online surrounding whether the pop star would be able to make it to the games in time, making her ultimate attendance even more anticipated than it otherwise would be.

Another factor in the Super Bowl numbers is the movie trailers that play during the breaks. This year brought a number of high-profile trailers, including for Marvel’s Deadpool & Wolverine. Due to its status as the third film in an already-successful franchise and its bringing back Hugh Jackman, Deadpool & Wolverine is highly anticipated.
