The launch of the 2021 MacBook Pro saw Apple bring back a bunch of ports that have been missing from its laptop computers, one of which is the SDXC card slot. Although the port uses a slower standard, it still comes in handy when users need to transfer photos and videos from an SD card. In addition, users can also use it to expand the storage of the computer.
The Macbook Pro comes in different configurations, with the base model having a 512GB SSD and the option to configure it to up to 8TB of storage. Unfortunately, whatever storage option a user chooses at the point of purchase is what they are stuck with. Apple has soldered the RAM and the storage to the mainboard, making it impossible for them to be upgraded. However, all hope is not lost for those who need more storage, as they can easily do so using the SDXC card slot. All they have to do is insert a compatible SD card, although it won’t be as fast as the built-in SSD.
Transcend wants to cater to those who wish to expand their MacBook Pro’s storage with its JetDrive Lite expansion cards. Its newest card in the series is the JetDrive Lite 330, and it is specifically designed for the MacBook Pro 2021. Tailor-made for each MacBook model, it is not only available in colors that match the MacBook Pro but also has an almost seamless flush when it is inserted into the computer, leaving very little protrusion. In addition, Transcend states the JetDrive Lite expansion cards are manufactured using advanced COB (chip-on-board) technology which makes them water, dust, and shock-resistant.
An Easy & Affordable Way To Add More Storage
Transcend claims the SD card has a read speed of up to 95MB/s and a write speed of 75MB/s. It also advertises that users can use it for Time Machine backups, iTunes libraries, or just to store documents, pictures and videos. It is also making its RecoveRx software, which can be used to recover accidentally deleted files, available as a free download. Although the SD card is designed for the 2021 MacBook Pro, users can also use it with the MacBook Pro (Retina) 13” released between late 2012 and early 2015.
The JetDrive Lite 330 is available in 1TB, 512GB, 256GB and 128GB storage capacities. The 1TB version is priced at $249.99, which costs more than a MicroSD card of a similar capacity but is still cheaper than the extra $400 Apple charges if a buyer opts for a 2TB SSD storage over a 1TB SSD. The SD card is already available for purchase on Amazon in the U.S.
