This Lenovo ThinkBook Plus Is Unlike Any Laptop We’ve Seen Before

A leaked photo of the Lenovo ThinkBook Plus just appeared over the weekend, revealing what’s one of the most bizarre PCs we’ve seen in a while. The world of Windows laptops is an extremely competitive space. HP and Dell are two of the biggest and most well-known players, gaming brands like Razer and MSI regularly fight for the spotlight, and even Microsoft itself wants a piece of the pie with its Surface lineup. No matter what budget someone’s shopping with, there are tons of options to sift through.

One company that regularly keeps things interesting is Lenovo. Want a gaming laptop that can handle the latest titles? Lenovo’s Legion sub-brand has you covered. In the market for a laptop that can transform into a tablet? The Yoga series is excellent. Lenovo also has options for the education market, folks who prefer Chromebooks, and more. Not all of its products are perfect, but Lenovo laptops are rarely boring.

A prime example of this is the just-leaked Lenovo ThinkBook Plus. Shared by reliable leaker @Evleaks on October 31, the above photo showcases one of Lenovo’s most fascinating laptops yet. It has a 17-inch display with decently-sized bezels, a large keyboard, a trackpad, and all of that’s wrapped in a sleek black paint job. Nothing too exciting, right? That’s true until you look to the right of the keyboard and trackpad. Sitting next to these is a secondary display that takes up the entire height of the bottom portion.

Why This Secondary Screen Could Be Useful

To give credit where credit’s due, this isn’t the first laptop we’ve ever seen with a secondary screen. The Asus ZenBook Pro Duo has a wide display right above the keyboard that’s great for watching videos or running a second app. HP offers something similar with its  Omen X 2S laptop, with the second display emphasized as a way to quickly access gaming shortcuts. What’s unique about this new Lenovo ThinkBook Plus is how the display will likely be used. The picture shows it mimicking the parrot seen on the primary display, photo editing shortcuts to the far right, and there’s a stylus laying next to this screen. If we had to guess, it’s likely Lenovo’s imaging this second screen as a built-in digital tablet of sorts. If someone wants a single laptop for productivity and light photo editing, a form factor like this could be really interesting.

The leaked photo doesn’t come with any specs or availability info, but it’s safe to assume this new ThinkBook Plus will be announced at CES 2022 in January. Lenovo announced the ThinkBook Plus Gen 2 at this year’s CES, though that model featured a secondary e-ink display on the lid. Lenovo’s clearly thought of a radical new design for the third generation, so here’s to hoping we don’t have too much longer to wait before learning more about it.
