This Amazing Twi’lek Jedi Cosplay Wields A Unique Lightsaber You Won’t Have Seen Before

The iconic weapon of the Jedi in Star Wars is unique to each Jedi, and one remarkable cosplay has given a Twi’lek an impressive lightsaber. Twi’leks are a unique race in the galaxy, characterized by their colorful skin and long appendages stemming from their heads. The Rebel General Hera Syndulla is the most well-known Twi’lek in the Star Wars franchise, but there were many Twi’lek Jedi who fought alongside Anakin Skywalker and Obi-Wan Kenobi. Of course, every Jedi has a weapon as distinctive as their personality, and this Twi’lek is no different.

Cosplayer Eleonora took to Instagram to share her incredibly detailed Twi’lek Jedi to life under the profile @shiri_i_am_no_jedi.

Clothed in Jedi-style robes, Eleonora’s Twi’lek appears to be wielding a saberstaff, a lightsaber that was initially developed by the Sith, but soon became popular among the Jedi as well. The attention to detail is astounding, and even the Twi’lek’s lekku looks lifelike enough to have come straight out of hyperspace. The look is completed with some incredibly realistic lighting illuminating from the blue blade of the saberstaff.

The lightsaber is the signature weapon of the Jedi and the Sith – but there have actually been many different types in Star Wars canon.

How Does A Jedi Design Their Lightsaber?

Lightsabers are constructed at the end of Jedi Younglings’ training, during a rite of passage called The Gathering. This was a trip to the planet Ilum, where the prospective Padawans would harvest the special kyber crystal that would become their lightsaber blade. Each individual Jedi’s alignment in the Force determines the crystal’s color. The hilt is even more customizable. Crafted from an incredibly strong metal alloy, the hilt served to protect the kyber crystal as well as to reflect the Jedi it belonged to. The Jedi could take their personal aesthetics into consideration, as well as their favored fighting style.

Most sabers simply resembled a sword, but variations included the shorter shoto blades used by Yoda and Ahsoka, or Kylo Ren’s infamous crossguard lightsaber. Double-bladed saberstaffs, like the one this cosplay features, were generally used by those who preferred swift, overwhelming attacks. With a longer hilt with two emitters, the saberstaff also helped to catch opponents offguard. Star Wars’ legendary weapons are some of the most recognizable accessories in science fiction. With so many design options, it’s no wonder fans love to build their own in addition to recreating those of their favorite characters.
