This 2024 Movie Can Finally Fulfill One Actor Promise From Quentin Tarantino’s Once Upon A Time In Hollywood

One upcoming 2024 movie has a promising cast and a renowned director leading the project, and it can be the movie that finally fulfills one actor promise from Quentin Tarantino’s Once Upon A Time In Hollywood. After a couple of rough years due to the COVID-19 pandemic, the film industry had a great year in 2023. Massive box-office success like The Super Mario Bros. Movie and Barbie reignited interest in going to the cinema, while critically acclaimed projects like Oppenheimer and Killers of the Flower Moon gave audiences a lot to talk about.

2023 brought new projects from acclaimed directors like Christopher Nolan, Greta Gerwig, Alexander Payne, and Yorgos Lanthimos, and now all eyes are on their next films. In Yorgos Lanthimos’ case, his steampunk comedy drama Poor Things brought him and its main cast great success, creating a lot of expectations for his next project. Lanthimos’ next movie has already been revealed along with its main cast, and through one returning Poor Things actress, it can finally fulfill her promising career after Tarantino’s Once Upon A Time In Hollywood.

Margaret Qualley is part of the cast of Lanthimos’ Kinds of Kindness, following her brief role in Poor Things. Qualley isn’t a newcomer, as she made her acting debut in 2013 in Gia Coppola’s drama movie Palo Alto, in the role of Raquel. After that, Qualley was cast in different projects, most notably The Nice Guys (where she played Amelia Kuttner) and Death Note (as Mia Sutton), as well as the supernatural drama TV series The Leftovers, where she had the main role as Jill Garvey. However, Qualley’s break on the big screen arrived in 2019 with Quentin Tarantino’s Once Upon a Time in Hollywood.

Set in 1969 Los Angeles, Once Upon A Time In Hollywood follows actor Rick Dalton (Leonardo DiCaprio) and his best friend and stuntman Cliff Booth (Brad Pitt), as they struggle to remain relevant during the final years of Hollywood’s Golden Age. Once Upon A Time In Hollywood also follows Sharon Tate (Margot Robbie), who has a different fate than her real-life counterpart, and features Charles Manson (Damon Herriman) and his “family”. Among them was Pussycat (Qualley), whom Booth gives a ride to Spahn Ranch, where he checks on his old friend George Spahn (Bruce Dern) and meets the rest of Pussycat and Manson’s “family”.

Every Actor Cameo In Once Upon A Time In Hollywood’s Manson Cult

Once Upon a Time in Hollywood included Charles Manson’s infamous “family” cult. Here are all the actors that appeared as part of the family.

Although Pussycat had a brief appearance in Once Upon A Time In Hollywood, Qualley’s performance was one of the most memorable parts of the movie, thanks to her natural charm and her chemistry with Pitt. Given the magnitude of the project, it being a Tarantino movie, her role in it, and her performance, Once Upon A Time In Hollywood should have been a huge breakout for Qualley, but it wasn’t like that.

Margaret Qualley’s Movie Career Hasn’t Lived Up To OUATIH’s Promise

Margaret Qualley has been cast in some interesting projects.

2019 was a busy year for Qualley, as in addition to Once Upon A Time In Hollywood, she was also part of the post-apocalyptic sci-fi movie Io, the drama movie Native Son, the comedy-drama Adam, and the thrillers Strange but True and Seberg. Following Once Upon A Time In Hollywood, Qualley was cast in the drama movie My Salinger Year, the romantic thriller Stars at Noon, the psychological thriller Sanctuary, Lanthimos’ Poor Things, and Ethan Coen’s comedy road film Drive-Away Dolls. On TV, she played Ann Reinking in the miniseries Fossee/Verdon and Alex Russell in Maid.

While Qualley stood out in most of these projects, she hasn’t achieved her true potential and become a true star yet. Despite being nominated for an Emmy for her performance in Maid, it wasn’t enough to make her a household name, her role in Poor Things was so brief that her talent was wasted, and Drive-Away Dolls didn’t do well with neither critics nor viewers (though her performance was praised).

Kinds Of Kindness Could Take Margaret Qualley’s Career To A New Level

Kinds of Kindness reunites Margaret Qualley with Yorgos Lanthimos after Poor Things.

Margaret Qualley’s role in Poor Things was so small that many viewers weren’t aware that she was part of the cast until they watched the movie. Qualley played Felicity, a young woman who becomes Dr. Baxter’s (Willem Dafoe) new experiment after Bella (Emma Stone) runs away with Duncan Wedderburn (Mark Ruffalo). Felicity is briefly shown as maturing slower than Bella, and she shows up again at the end of Poor Things, living in Baxter’s mansion with Bella, Max (Ramy Youssef), and Toinette (Suzy Bemba). Now, her role in Kinds of Kindness seems to be bigger, as her name is being used in the film’s early marketing push.

Kinds of Kindness will be an anthology movie, a format that allows different actors to be in the spotlight as they star in different segments. Because of this, it’s highly likely that Qualley will get a bigger role in Kinds of Kindness than the one she had in Poor Things, thus finally giving her the space and recognition she deserves. In addition to this, Lanthimos has become a favorite of critics and the Academy, and if Qualley is given a prominent role in Kinds of Kindness, this could be the project that pushes her into an Oscars conversation.

What We Know About Kinds Of Kindness

Here’s what to expect from Yorgos Lanthimos’ Kinds of Kindness.

Despite being scheduled for a 2024 summer release, not much is known about Kinds of Kindness yet. In addition to directing the film, Lanthimos co-wrote the script with Efthimis Filippou, and starring alongside Qualley are Emma Stone, Willem Dafoe, Jesse Plemons, Hong Chau, Joe Alwyn, Hunter Schafer, and Mamoudou Athie. Kinds of Kindness went into production in October 2022 and was originally titled And, but went through a retitle in 2023. As mentioned above, Kinds of Kindness is an anthology movie, formed by three different stories with “four or five actors” in each story (via The Guardian).

Kinds of Kindness is scheduled for a June 21, 2024 release, so more details and a first teaser or trailer should arrive soon. Margaret Qualley’s career should have gotten a major boost thanks to Once Upon A Time In Hollywood and later Maid, and Kinds of Kindness can finally give her the recognition she deserves.
