Things You Missed In Spider-Man: Across The Spider-Verse Trailer

Things You Missed In Spider-Man: Across The Spider-Verse Trailer

The first official trailer for Spider-Man: Across the Spider-Verse is finally out, and there are tons of Easter eggs, cameos, and essential story details that could have been easily missed. Spider-Man: Across the Spider-Verse is the long-awaited sequel to Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse, the Oscar-winning animated take on the popular Marvel superhero. Spider-Man: Across the Spider-Verse seems to be even bigger and better than its predecessor, with the trailer hinting at a lot of changes that have occurred in the time between the two movies.

The Spider-Man: Across the Spider-Verse trailer reveals that the sequel takes place a few years later with Miles Morales reunited with Gwen Stacy in order to take down another interdimensional threat. As teased at the end of the first Spider-Verse movie, Miguel O’Hara, a.k.a. Spider-Man 2099, will play a major role in the sequel. He’s able to traverse universes as he pleases, which will have some negative impacts on the multiverse. The trailer also shows off a whole universe full of Spider-Man variants, all-new villains, and more details that may have been missed on a first watch.

Miles Is The Official Spider-Man Of Brooklyn

Things You Missed In Spider-Man: Across The Spider-Verse Trailer

Several shots in the Spider-Man: Across the Spider-Verse trailer show Miles Morales suited up as Spider-Man swinging through Brooklyn, stopping crimes and preventing danger. He is greeted with cheers and thanked with a free hot dog after stopping a crashing car from killing several civilians. This implies that Miles has become the accepted Spider-Man of Brooklyn. In the time since his first multiversal adventure, Miles has become beloved by the community as the city’s official Spider-Man — something that will again change upon Spider-Gwen’s return.

Miles & Gwen Are A Lot Older (& Have New Designs)

Another subtle detail in the trailer that has some major implications is Miles and Gwen’s new designs, which prove that a lot of time has passed. In the first movie, both characters are still kids and are designed to look younger compared to the older Spider-Man variants who surround them. Here, though, Miles and Gwen have both been redesigned to be taller and more muscular, reflecting the age difference between the characters in Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse and now Spider-Man: Across the Spider-Verse. Besides just looking older, Miles and Gwen also both have new haircuts and other slight design alterations.

All The Spider-Man Cameos

Spider-Man Cameos in Across the Spider-Verse

There are tons of new cameos in Spider-Man: Across the Spider-Verse, with potentially hundreds of variants appearing in the dimension populated by Spider-Men. While there are too many Spider-Men to list, there are some highlights. Werewolf Spider-Man from Marvel Zombies vs. Army of Darkness can be seen in the shot. A Spider-Man with a paper bag over his head appears, referencing his Fantastic Four suit from the comics — although he is wearing a regular red suit in the trailer. A Spider-Man wearing what looks like a Future Foundations suit can also be seen.

The most important of these cameos, though, come early in the trailer’s shot of the Spider-Man universe. Spider-Man from the PS4 video game and what looks like Spidey in his Spider-Man: Far From Home suit can be seen walking side-by-side as the shot begins to zoom out. Both of these are major characters, making their appearances notable in their own right. However, many rumors about Spider-Man: Across the Spider-Verse have said that those two variants will appear alongside Tobey Maguire’s and Andrew Garfield’s Spider-Mans, meaning these cameos have some major significance.

A New Spider-Man Is Being Created

In the background of a shot with Miles and Gwen, some sort of Spider-Man suit can be seen hooked up to a machine. It’s too low-resolution to make out exactly what it is, but considering there is more than one shot of the room with this technological creation in it, it seems like it will be pretty important. The suit seems to be pretty bulky, meaning that it could be one of Miguel O’Hara/Spider-Man 2099’s creations, or it could be the suit for an unknown Spider-Man variant. A more exciting possibility is that it could have something to do with Venom, and considering its size and color, that’s not impossible.

Spider-Woman Is Fighting Vulture

Vulture in Across The Spider-Verse

The Spider-Man: Across the Spider-Verse trailer gives the first official look at Jessica Drew, a.k.a. Spider-Woman, voiced by Issa Rae. While her new design and stylish motorcycle are the focal points of the shots she’s in, one moment shows her fighting a large brown bird creature. It isn’t revealed who this villain is, but it seems most likely that it is a multiversal variant of the Vulture, a classic Spider-Man villain. Although it doesn’t look like the typical Vulture design, Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse villains like Scorpion and Green Goblin had wildly different looks in that movie, and Vulture could be getting the same treatment here.

Spider-Man 2099 May Have Lost His Kid (Just Like Kingpin)

Miguel O'Hara and his daughter in Across The Spider-Verse

In the Spider-Man: Across the Spider-Verse trailer, Miguel O’Hara can be seen somberly looking at a picture of himself with a young girl labeled Briella, who sits on his shoulders. Briella isn’t seen anywhere else in the trailer besides this photograph, hinting that Miguel’s motivation for traveling the multiverse may be to find another version of his daughter. This is similar to Kingpin’s motivation in Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse, with the villain building a collider in order to bring back his dead wife and son from another universe.

Peter B. Parker Has A Baby

Although it’s on-screen for only a few seconds, the returning Peter B. Parker from Into the Spider-Verse can be seen with a baby carrier on his chest — and something is moving inside of it. It’s difficult to say who the baby could be or why Peter B. Parker has it, but there are a few theories. It could be that Peter got back together with Mary Jane in his universe, and this could be their baby. It could also be a younger version of Briella, Miguel’s kid. It could also be something zanier, like a Spider-Man variant who is a baby or a non-human creature.

A Spider-Man May Be The Villain

At the very end of the Spider-Man: Across the Spider-Verse trailer, Gwen Stacy says, “We are supposed to be the good guys,” to which Miguel O’Hara replies, “We are.” This alongside the scene of tons of Spider-Man variants fighting implies that there is some sort of conflict among the Spider-Men, with one of them possibly even being the villain. Although some villains are already confirmed for the sequel, like The Spot and the Vulture variant, it’s entirely possible that they are side villains to a main Spider-Man antagonist in Spider-Man: Across the Spider-Verse — possibly even Spider-Man 2099 himself.
