There’s One Star Wars Story Mace Windu Should Return For

Mace Windu could return for a standalone Star Wars story in the future, and there is one story that would be perfect to bring him back for. Windu became one of the most beloved and iconic Jedi of all time after his introduction in the prequel trilogy, but his time on screen ended prematurely. Windu had his arm cut off by Anakin Skywalker before being pushed out a window by Darth Sidious in Star Wars: Episode III – Revenge of the Sith. He was presumed dead after that fall, but Star Wars characters have a habit of coming back from the dead.

Mace Windu’s popularity makes him a great choice for a solo show or movie. He was one of the greatest Jedi ever, having pioneered his own lightsaber combat form, and he would be perfect to center a story around. Samuel L. Jackson has also said he wants to play Windu again, as he believes that Windu survived Order 66 and the fall after his duel with Darth Sidious.

Jackson’s comments have ignited hope that his iconic character will receive a standalone story on Disney+, and a potential Mace Windu project already has the perfect route to take to bring his character back.

How To Watch Star Wars Movies In Order

Here is how to watch all Star Wars movies and TV shows chronologically and in order of release, and how each fits into the Star Wars timeline.

Star Wars Needs To Tell The Story Of Boba Fett’s Revenge

Bossk, Boba Fett, Castas, and Aurra Sing gathered around each other watching an explosion off screen in Star Wars: The Clone Wars season 2 episode 21

Mace Windu killed Boba Fett’s father, Jango, during the First Battle of Geonosis in Star Wars: Episode II – Attack of the Clones. After the battle, Boba took his father’s decapitated head in his arms and pressed it against his forehead, which set the stage for the future bounty hunter to take revenge against his father’s killer. While Boba’s quest for revenge was briefly explored in Star Wars: The Clone Wars season 2 episodes 20 through 22, he was unable to finish the job because of his young age. His revenge plot was never satisfied, as Windu died before Boba could take him on properly.

The conflict between Windu and Boba is ripe for exploration, as their story has been waiting to be resolved for over 21 years. It would make for one of the most satisfying ways to bring back WIndu’s character, and it might be the only way to do so. After Revenge of the Sith, Windu has very little left to fight for, and he was no longer a major player for any of the events that followed Order 66. Fighting against Boba for survival would be the most reasonable way Windu’s character could return, and their story could make for a decidedly dark tale.

Boba Fett’s Revenge After Order 66 Would Be A Chilling Tale

When Boba originally went after Windu, he posed little threat both because of his inexperience, but also because of the timing. Windu was the leader of the Jedi Order at the time, and he had command of an army of clone troopers. He was one of the most powerful people in the galaxy, and Boba’s revenge plot never stood a chance during the Clone Wars. After Order 66, though, both Boba and Windu would be wildly different people, and their change in power dynamics could mean Boba would pose a serious threat.

Windu would have been left with severe injuries, a missing arm, and no Jedi Order or army to call on for support. He would have been left wandering a galaxy that was unrecognizable to him, as it had completely changed overnight, and it would put him at his absolute lowest. Boba, on the other hand, would be just starting his rise to power, so their fight will be much more dangerous than it was in The Clone Wars. The danger of their fight, coupled with the loss both characters have experienced, would make for one of Star Wars‘ darkest stories yet.

Can Star Wars Still End Mace’s Story With A Sense Of Hope?

A potential new story featuring Mace Windu would be a chance to tell a more mature story about the Jedi Master, but it might be too dark. Star Wars, as a franchise, has always spread a message of hope, that it can always survive, even in the darkest of times. It would be difficult to fit a theme of hope into the story of Boba’s quest for revenge on Windu, but it could be done.

Boba changed significantly in The Book of Boba Fett, but his turn to the light side wasn’t set up very well, as he was a menace for most of his life. A Mace Windu spinoff could give Boba a chance to let go of his hate and allow the Jedi to live, which could give some much-needed foreshadowing for his later redemption. If Windu survived, the ending of his story could be about how he learned to live for himself, without the Order. Both of these possibilities would allow a very dark story to end on a light note.

While a Mace Windu show or movie is nowhere near being confirmed, Samuel L. Jackson is not alone in his eagerness to bring his character back to the screen. Windu was one of the most compelling Jedi of all time, and revealing his survival could set the stage for one of the best stories Star Wars has ever told. The mature nature of his fight against Boba Fett would also work perfectly with the darker tones shows like Andor and The Bad Batch have pioneered. There has never been a better time to resurrect Mace Windu.
