There’s No Way Ted Lasso Can End Now After Apple’s Massive Streaming Win

There’s No Way Ted Lasso Can End Now After Apple’s Massive Streaming Win

Ted Lasso has won a massive streaming battle and there is no way Apple can end the show after the latest date was revealed. The heartwarming show earned a dedicated and devoted fan base over the last four years, and it appears most of them spent a lot of time with the show for season 3 in 2023. Even with the uncertain future of Ted Lasso, it is now certain they will flock to watch more of this charming show that is up in the air for season 4.

Apple TV+ is in constant competition with other, larger streaming services like Netflix and Disney+, but the streamer was able to produce one of the most popular streaming shows of the decade in Ted Lasso. More people than ever before watched Ted Lasso, perhaps because star creator and star Jason Sudeikis said Ted Lasso season 3 was his last, but the show certainly looks primed to continue based on the latest released streaming data.

Apple Is Unlikely To End Ted Lasso After Its 2023 Streaming Original Viewership Record

According to Nielsen streaming data available through Variety, Ted Lasso led all original streaming shows with more than 16.9 billion minutes viewed as the three seasons of the Apple TV+ program came to what many believed was its end. However, considering the massive amount of minutes fans streamed this show, Apple TV+ executives are surely now planning a way to revive the globally popular program for future seasons. Even if headlining star Jason Sudeikis does not return, there are plenty of paths left to explore for a fourth season and beyond.

Ted Lasso, which first premiered on Apple TV+ in 2020, follows an American college football coach (Sudeikis) and his assistant Coach Beard (Brendan Hunt) as they unexpectedly are asked to coach an English soccer team, AFC Richmond. Also on the Ted Lasso cast, the team’s owner, Rebecca (Hannah Waddingham), seeks to sink the club to get back at her ex-husband Rupert. Eventually, however, the winning mentality, humor, and uplifting personality Ted and his style of play bring to the club erase all doubts about the club’s legitimacy.

Why Ted Lasso’s 2023 Streaming Viewership Record Is So Significant

There’s No Way Ted Lasso Can End Now After Apple’s Massive Streaming Win

At more than 16.9 billion minutes of streaming, Ted Lasso outpaced second place (Netflix’s The Night Agent) by more than 2.5 billion minutes. This is extremely significant because of the massive difference in subscriber base between Apple TV+ and other streaming platforms like Netflix, which had seven of the top ten streaming shows of 2023. It is estimated that Apple TV+ has about 25 million subscribers while Netflix has more than 10 times that amount at more than 250 million global subscribers.

The simple math shows that every subscriber to Apple TV+ watched 640 minutes of Ted Lasso in 2023. With the highly anticipated Season 3 being thought of as the series finale, many fans tuned in to discover how Ted Lasso would end, leading to minutes per viewer for that show that blows away any of Apple TV+’s streaming competitors. Knowing that Apple TV+ wants to continue to try and take some market share away from giants like Netflix and Hulu, Ted Lasso certainly will not end now after this massive streaming win for Apple.
