The X-Men’s Greatest Villain Just Solved the Human-Mutant Conflict

The X-Men’s Greatest Villain Just Solved the Human-Mutant Conflict

Warning: SPOILERS for Sins of Sinister #1

The X-Men villain Mr. Sinister just took over the entire island of Krakoa – and accidentally solved mutant-human relations (with a major twist). Formerly a small-time villain, Mr. Sinister is now the single greatest threat to mutants and Krakoa. In Sins of Sinister #1, Mr. Sinister finally achieves his master plan, but replaces the morality of his indoctrinated X-Men with his own.

In previous issues, Mr. Sinister used the unique powers of Moira MacTaggart to receive information from the future. Whenever Moira dies, her consciousness travels back in time to her younger self; Sinister has created dozens of Moira clones, allowing his future selves to send information back to his present self. The end result is a Mr. Sinister who is so well-informed, he is able to outsmart even Destiny (a clairvoyant mutant), kill Hope Summers, and manipulate the genes of every single mutant who goes through the mutant resurrection process.

In Sins of Sinister #1, written by Keiron Gillen with art by Lucas Werneck, Mr. Sinister has taken over the bodies and minds of nearly the entire X-Men roster and population of Krakoa – including Professor X, Emma Frost, Exodus and Hope Summers (all of whom are extremely powerful telepaths). Surprisingly, they still retain their personalities and original desires – with a twist. “I still believe in the dream,” says the assimilated Professor X. “If everyone thought like me, there would be no war. Assimilation to the dream is essential.” The others agree: they must force Humanity to share their sentiments.

Mr. Sinister “Saves” Human-Mutant Relations (With No Morals)

Mr. Sinister is outwardly pleasant and privately enraged, but there’s little he can do (he needed their personalities intact for his plan to work). Sinister couldn’t care less about humanity, but the four telepaths believe humanity can be “saved”…so long as Xavier’s dream is forced upon them rather than learned. Without their input, Sinister would in all probability kill humans out of sheer boredom, but his fellow Sinisters disagree.

At the end of the issue, however, Mr. Sinister’s plans for the future are foiled: someone has accessed his lab and stolen every computer, ever genetic sample and every Moira clone. Sinister cannot reset or provide information to his past self, meaning whatever happens in the following issues will happen without any chance of a timeline reset. Mr. Sinister is trapped in his own personal hell with the worst possible allies: mind-controlled clones with the bleeding hearts of their original X-Men hosts intact.
