The Woman In The Wall Episode 2 Recap: 8 Biggest Reveals

Warning! Contains major spoilers for The Woman in the Wall episode 1.

The Woman in the Wall‘s episode 2 delves deeper into the dark underbelly of Kilkinure, revealing more details about Lorna and Akande’s connections to the Magdalene Laundry. Set in the fictional town of Kilkinure, The Woman in the Wall combines fiction with history by portraying how a murder links to the unethical practices of a shut-down Magdalene Laundry. While the show’s first episode only gives a glimpse of all the players involved in the overarching mystery, the second episode reveals how there is more to the central murder than meets the eye.

Like episode 1, The Woman in the Wall‘s episode 2 still leaves audiences with more questions than answers. However, it seemingly hints that the obvious suspect, Lorna, may not be responsible for the central crime. In addition, by including a few flashbacks to Akande’s past, the episode implies that he, too, may have had a history with the Kilkinure Magdalene Laundry.

While Lorna finalizes her meeting with Dara, Akande and Aidan eventually discover that the man in the car is Dara. After spotting Dara in the bar by calling his cell phone, Lorna walks up to him and tries to talk to him by mentioning Aoife. Dara initially seems cautious and reserved but lets his guard down when Lorna claims she was helping Aoife (revealed to be his wife) to find someone. Despite letting Lorna talk, Dara gets increasingly suspicious about her and even claims that she is Clemence, another woman who was with Lorna at the convent.

However, before Dara can tell her more about why his wife was looking for Clemence and what he knows about the Magdalene Laundry, Akande and Aidan show up at the bar. Dara attempts to flee the scene, but they catch him in the nick of time. Meanwhile, Lorna takes it as an opportunity to rush out of there.

After being pressured about his involvement in Father Percy’s murder, Dara claims to have killed him. However, when Akande asks him about the details of the crime, he gets them all wrong, proving that he is trying to cover up for someone. As the integration progresses, he finally reveals that Aoife had visited Father Percy. Although he seems unsure whether she killed him, he suspects her to be the murderer and tries to take the blame for the crime with his false confession.

4 Akande And Aidan Meet Sister Aileen

After speaking with Dara and learning that his wife, Aoife, was also a sister, they realize that his murder might have something to do with the Magdalene Laundry. Therefore, they approach Sister Aileen, who was one of the nuns running the convent. Aileen claims that Aoife was a troubled woman. When they ask her about the convent, she blatantly says that no one else would do what they did for the women. She also opens up about Father Percy’s involvement with Laundry, implying that he only provided services when necessary without any active participation in other operations at the institute.

Sister Aileen’s recollection of Aoife and her behavior suggests that Aoife might not have been like the other sisters at the facility. She likely questioned the mistreatment of women, which may be the reason why she even murdered Father Percy. She was also likely trying to find justice for the women who were held captive at the convent by finding their children. If this holds true, Lorna killed someone who was genuinely trying to help her find her child.

3 Lorna Convinces Clemence To Talk To Her

Lorna and Clemence’s backstory reveals disturbing details about the Magdalene Laundry

After her brief interaction with Dara, Lorna realizes that Clemence might have answers to what happened to their children. However, Clemence seems apprehensive about trusting her after their experience at the Magdalene Laundry. A flashback reveals that Lorna had tricked Clemence during their stay at the convent, only to impress the sisters. This led to Clemence being punished, while the sisters offered Lorna a reward. At a meeting that includes Clemence and other survivors of the laundry, Lorna opens up about how the sisters emotionally manipulated them into believing they were sinners.

By recalling her side of the story, she convinces Clemence that she, too, was a victim. She did not mean to trick her. However, the sister made several false promises to her, forcing her to believe that she would get to meet her child if she followed their rules and orders. Clemence realizes it was not Lorna’s fault and promises to tell her everything the next day.

2 Akande Reveals His Past Connection With The Laundry

While Akande and Aidan return from Nurse Aileen’s home, Akande suddenly gets a panic attack and rushes out of the car to get fresh air. He then discloses that he was born in one of the mother and baby institutes associated with the Magdalene Laundry. Earlier in the episode, Akande also gets traumatic flashbacks of childhood memories when he tries to walk down a narrow street, hinting that Father Percy’s murder mystery and Lorna’s hunt for answers surrounding the Magdalene Laundry are somehow deeply connected with Akande’s past.

1 Clemence Is Found Dead In Her Bedroom

Clemence could have been a crucial piece in the overarching puzzle, given how she knew what Aoife was up to. The Woman in Wall‘s episode 2 does not reveal whether she was murdered, but it seems likely that she was silenced by someone who did not want her to reveal Aoife’s secrets or whatever she had figured out about the laundry. After her death in The Woman in the Wall, it seems unlikely that Lorna was responsible for Father Percy’s murder, even though Akande finds CCTV footage of her walking with an axe.
