The Wheel Of Time Season 3’s “Absolutely Bananas” Opening Teased By Showrunner

The Wheel Of Time Season 3’s “Absolutely Bananas” Opening Teased By Showrunner

The Wheel of Time showrunner Rafe Judkins has opened up about what he calls an “absolutely bananas” opening to season 3, revealing what to expect from the upcoming episodes. Season 2 featured plenty of important storylines within its ensemble cast, with plenty of exciting sequences throughout. This includes the season finale, which included a fight scene full of magic, weapons clashing, and ending with Rand revealing to the world his status as the Dragon Reborn.

Speaking with Deadline, however, Judkins teases the best is yet to come, with The Wheel of Time season 3 having a wild opening scene. The showrunner explained how it will be a 15-minute scene, and include many women battling one another. Check out what Judkins had to say about the opening scene below:

The first 15 minutes of Season 3 is one of the most bonkers set pieces I’ve ever seen on television. I was just watching it this week and it is absolutely bananas what our team pulled off … just a bunch of women in their 40s and 50s shredding each other, and it is wonderful to behold.

What Wheel Of Time Season 3’s Opening Means For The Story

The Wheel Of Time Season 3’s “Absolutely Bananas” Opening Teased By Showrunner

Judkins’ tease appears to involve Aes Sedai, the all-female group of channelers whose powers are perfect for doing battle against their opponents. However, since the women in the showrunner’s tease will be fighting one another, it’s possible the battle will involve not just them, but the Forsaken as well. The Wheel of Time season 2 ended with a new Forsaken, Moghedien, informing Lanfear everyone was released by Ishamael before his death. This means it could be a battle of light against dark, setting the stage for what comes after.

Season 3 of the fantasy series will pull from Book 4 of the novel series, The Shadow Rising, which sees Rand and some of his companions traveling to the Aiel Waste, dealing with Forsaken and Darkfriends in their path. Since the newest episodes will be pulling from this book, it’s also possible the battle teased will happen in the new location. Whatever transpires could set up the conflict for the rest of the season, no doubt having to do with the Dark One’s minions trying to wrestle for more power over the world.

Since there are plenty of villains in The Wheel of Time that have yet to be introduced, season 3’s opening battle could provide a closer look at some newcomers anticipated for this part of the story. Depending on who participates in the battle, it could result in a major struggle for the Aes Sedai, who might not be able to fight off multiple powerful Forsaken at once. With plenty of mystery still surrounding how the show will begin, it seems the fantasy series will be upping the stakes with its action-packed season 3 opener.
