The Walking Dead: World Beyond Clip Introduces A New Zombie Type! [EXCLUSIVE]

The teens come across an unexpected danger in Screen Rant’s exclusive clip from The Walking Dead: World Beyond. The Walking Dead universe indeed continues to expand with the latest new spinoff series, set ten years after the outbreak of the zombie apocalypse and featuring a group of teenage survivors setting off on a perilous mission into the unknown.

The highly anticipated latest Walking Dead series debuted last weekend, and didn’t waste any time setting up the journey at the heart of the show’s story. In the premiere episode, sisters Iris (Aliyah Royale) and Hope (Alexa Mansour) received a distress message from their absent father, a scientist working on finding a cure for The Walking Dead‘s still-mysterious zombie plague. Despite the danger, the young women struck off into zombie infested territory in hopes of finding their dad, with their friends Elton (Nicolas Cantu) and Silas (Hal Cumpston) in tow and would-be protectors Felix (Nico Tortorella) and Huck (Annet Mahendru) in pursuit.

As the first episode made crystal clear, Iris, Hope and the rest of the show’s main characters have spent their lives in relative safety, doing normal kid things like attending school with the zombie threat held at bay. In other words, the teens are not at all prepared for the dangers they’re about to face in the “real” world outside. That danger indeed hits home in a big way in this Screen Rant exclusive clip from the show’s next episode “The Blaze of Gory” in which the World Beyond kids discover an “empty” (their word for walker) that is anything but. See the creepy moment in the space below:

The synopsis for “The Blaze of Gory” reads: “The group adjusts to the reality of life beyond their community’s walls. Iris attempts to take charge, in spite of Hope’s reservations. Felix and Huck trail the teens while Felix is forced to confront unwanted memories.”

World Beyond remains committed to the long-standing Walking Dead tradition of dreaming up creative new forms of zombies to terrorize survivors, as the above clip attests. A zombie that’s been turned into a bees nest is definitely interesting both visually and as a novel way of delivering danger. But though the bees are scary enough in the clip, the zombies themselves are always the true threat, as Iris, Hope, Elton and Silas quickly find out.

How the kids handle facing suddenly appearing walkers will of course be a big part of their trial by fire as they continue on their journey east from Omaha. As fans learned in the early seasons of The Walking Dead, it’s vitally important to master the art of clearing zombies if one hopes to last in the ever-hazardous world of the apocalypse. As of now, the kids are pretty green when it comes to dealing with empties, but no doubt they will quickly learn how to use their various edged weapons to keep themselves from being eaten.

The Walking Dead: World Beyond episode “The Blaze of Gory” premieres Sunday, October 11 at 10:15pm ET on AMC.
