It has already been confirmed that Danai Gurira who plays Michonne on The Walking Dead will be leaving the show this season. She is only set to appear in a few episodes in season 10, and indeed, we haven’t seen her for a few already. The last we saw of Michonne, she came across a mysterious man named Virgil who promised to provide her with a bevy of weapons if she helped him get back home. She decided the mission was worth going on.
Will Michonne ever return from this mission? Since she is rumored to appear in the spin-off movies with Andrew Lincoln (Rick Grimes), we’re pretty sure she won’t be killed. But how will she be sent off?
She Finds Rick
The only way we could possibly see Michonne willingly leaving her children Judith and R.J. is if she finds Rick and is unable to leave where they are (or is compelled to stay to figure something out). Or, at least she finds evidence that he is still alive.
One prediction is that her final episode ends with her running into his arms. She tells him about R.J. and how fierce Judith has become, and he reveals the secrets he has learned since being swept away in the helicopter. They then radio Judith who gives her blessing that they stay and try to save the world.
She Takes Off In A Helicopter
At some point on Michonne’s journey with Virgil, she will likely come upon a helicopter and those same suited up and masked men and women we saw on Fear the Walking Dead and with Jadis. Who are they? What are they doing? And why do they take her?
Chances are the episode will be left in a cliff-hanger with the details to be revealed in the spin-off films. So, the last we see of her might be high in the sky looking down at the walkers below.
She is Kidnapped By Virgil’s Group
While Virgil seems like an honest man who really just wants to get back home, you never know in this world. Is it possible that he kidnaps her, brings her to his group, and they hold her hostage? Perhaps she is stuck there as they try to gain information from her.
Maybe it’s an offshoot of the Saviors or an entirely new group altogether. But she will likely meet them at some point once she and Virgil reach their destination. Her fate after that, however, is unknown.
She Meets With Jadis
We know from Rick’s last episode that a helicopter swooped in and saved him from almost certain death. And who was in that helicopter and effectively saved his life? Jadis. We know from her fight with Gabriel and her secretive messages about people being As or Bs that she is somehow working with this mysterious group.
Michonne may run into Jadis, or maybe Virgil is working with her and will tell her that Rick is alive and to come with her in order to see him. How could Michonne possibly say no to that?
Gets Lost And Finds Evidence Rick Is Alive
Perhaps Michonne gets lost somehow along the way. Maybe Virgil is killed and she has no one to guide her. Or they get separated. Or he tries to kill her and that doesn’t end well for him. Then maybe she comes across some kind of definitive evidence that Rick is alive.
Maybe it’s a voice over a radio or a person she meets who talks of the bearded man who was once a cop and lived in Alexandria. Nonetheless, it’s almost a certainty that she will learn that Rick didn’t die after all and it will turn her world upside down.
Judith Convinces Her To Go Back
One thing we could see is that Michonne learns Rick is still alive or suspects it. She returns home after successfully completing her journey with Virgil and gives Judith the news. Torn inside about what to do, it’s the level-headed Judith who convinces Michonne to head back out and find him.
She will probably tell her to do what she has to do and bring their daddy home. It will give Michonne the chance to say her sweet goodbyes and leaves the door for a potential cameo later in the series, or a reunion at the very end.
She Falls Into A Coma
This one is a longshot but maybe Michonne falls into a coma or somehow gets seriously hurt. And just like with Rick, a helicopter swoops in, takes her to their mysterious land, and saves her. They care for her and keep her alive until she wakes back up or can get back on her feet.
Maybe only a few weeks pass, maybe months or even years. But at some point, she is well enough, gets up and when she is about to leave, she sees Rick.
Judith Goes With Her
It isn’t out of the realm of possibility that Judith goes with Michonne. It hasn’t been confirmed that the character would be leaving The Walking Dead and we can’t see it happening since she adds so much to the show.
But the series could throw us for a loop and send Judith and R.J. packing with Michonne and have all three of them end up on the film spin-offs instead. Again, we’d bet against this prediction. But anything’s possible.
She Runs Into Maggie
While Michonne will be leaving the show, we know that Maggie is supposed to be coming back. We know she left to join Georgia’s group and has decided to help their community. Could their community and Virgil’s be one and the same?
Maybe Michonne will meet Maggie there and they trade places. Maggie goes back to help care for Judith and R.J. and see her old friends while Michonne works with the new group. We know Maggie will appear in an upcoming episode after Michonne leaves so there might be some relation in terms of how and why one leaves and the other returns.
She Discovers Something Sinister Going On
Somewhere along the way, Michonne may discover that there’s something sinister going on or maybe even that someone or some group is working on a cure. She finds this worth seeking out, especially if she knows it can save her and her children. So she follows the trail to try and discover the truth.
In doing so, she might end up crossing paths with Maggie, in Maggie’s group, or learning of Rick’s actual fate. And this episode might finally reveal something about this secretive group we know very little about.
