The Vampire Diaries: 8 Memes That Perfectly Sum Up Katherine As A Character

In The Vampire Diaries Universe, the magic, drama, and romance are is never really over. With a fourth spin-off reportedly in the works (via CBR), it’s likely that the franchise will make it to a successful 20 years, with plenty of new and dynamic heroes and villains surely to be added.

However, they will have big shoes to fill – particularly since many of the original TVD characters have a devoted fanbase. Katherine, in particular, was one of the most loved characters on the show, both for her villainy and terrible deeds, as well as her sassy comebacks. In fact, her moments and quotes were so iconic, that plenty of her fans have taken to the internet and turned her into several relatable and hilarious memes.

The Agent Of Chaos

Nobody knew how to stir the pot quite like Katherine. She loved creating trouble, and left a trail of chaos and misery in her wake. She let the tomb vampires take the fall for her, got the Salvatore brothers killed, came back into their lives to get the moonstone, and then finally tried to burn the town to the ground.

Katherine did the worst things and felt no remorse. Years of survival instinct taught her to destroy anything that was a potential threat, which, as this meme perfectly captures, shows that she was a storm that was hard to recover from.

Doppelganger Danger

One of her defining traits, and also the cause of much misery in her life, was due to the fact that she was a doppelgänger in The Vampire Diaries. Since they were all played by Nina Dobrev, the women all looked identical, but their very distinct natures were a testament to Dobrev’s acting prowess.

Each doppelgänger suffered for being a supernatural anomaly, but Katherine still thought that she was the superior one. She had endured much at the hands of Klaus, and survived long enough to meet Elena, who came after her in the line of doppelgängers.

She Could Love Both Of Them

The cunning Bulgarian vampire entered the Salvatore brothers’ life as an angel, but then left them heartbroken and undead (which was mainly down to her own selfish needs). She was sure she could love each one in secret, but they knew and hated each other because they had to share Katherine.

Even though Katherine’s true love was Stefan, in the 1800s, she wanted both the Salvatores. Maybe if she had just chosen one of them, things could have gone more fortuitously for either of the men.

The Queen Of Hell

Little did Damon know that his casually blurted remark would become reality, but then he should have also known that if anybody could reign Hell, it was Katherine. After her desperate attempts to survive by body-jumping Elena and taking vampire blood, she was finally sucked into oblivion.

Oblivion, as it was, turned out to be Hell, and Katherine quickly but surely played Cade and took over the dimension by making him her puppet.

Breaking Out The Big Bads

There were enough villains and bad guys on TVD, but few were as deadly as Ripper Stefan, or Katherine (who was a lot more lethal). From the beginning of the show till the very end, she was a thorn in the gang’s side, and no one could hoodwink and cheat them quite like Katerina did.

Her ultimate goal, to destroy Mystic Falls, was seen to be one of her most evil schemes. However, some may argue that her handing Elena to Klaus, killing and turning Caroline, as well as killing Jeremy too were just as terrible. Either way, all this proved was that was one of the most vicious people when she was on a mission.

Almost Immortal Katherine

Being on survival mode was normal for Katerina, sadly. She longed to be immortal, and she almost did reach that pinnacle, had it not been for her soulmate Stefan. In order to stay alive, she went from human, to vampire, to cured human, to Traveler, to spirit.

She was a force to be reckoned with, especially because she had survived Klaus and hordes of enemies to become a villain that everyone was afraid of. Katherine almost did live forever.

Not everything about Katherine was awful and scary. She did once love the Salvatores like her own, which was why she also gave in to helping them when they were in dire need. When Damon was bitten by a werewolf, she worked a deal with Klaus where she had to transport his Hybrid blood to Damon before she earned her freedom.

Kat actually delivered on her promise, and she even helped Stefan recover from the trauma of being locked in the safe by Silas. She never had to do it, but she recognized when the brothers needed her the most, so she stepped in.

Two Katherines

There were few redeeming things in her life, but Katherine finding out that her daughter had survived, and also decided to become a vampire was the best thing that happened to her. Motherhood didn’t come naturally to Katherine, but Nadia brought out the decidedly good parts of her mother.

Nadia was a softer version of the woman who gave birth to her, but she still had the traits her mother valued the most. She was definitely a savior for someone as far gone as the villain.
