The Vampire Diaries is officially leaving Netflix in 2022, so if anyone is interested in rewatching some haste might be required. Despite theories that the show is simply going to move to HBO Max, it hasn’t been confirmed yet, and in the meantime, it will only be available for purchase.

The show might be coming back for another season, but he is still very much alive in the hearts and minds of fans everywhere. The show is still popular on social media platforms, and Redditors love to discuss their favorite or least favorite characters and scenes.

Daggering Rebekah

“Klaus daggering Rebekah several times for no reason,” said Reddit user Lullybella765. And it was messed up that Klaus used the dagger as some sort of mute button when he didn’t wish to deal with one of his siblings anymore, or simply found them boring.

Fans have difficulty getting over the fact that Klaus robbed some of his siblings of years of life, just because he found it convenient. Rebekah was also not the only one, he often did it to others, especially Finn who he found boring.

The Beginning

Stefan is always portrayed as the better man and the better brother, while rarely accepting consequences for his actions. Many fans forget that he was the one who started the whole thing and made Damon into what he is.

“Stefan killing his father and forcing his brother to turn into a vampire,” said Reddit user International_Loss_2. While fans didn’t learn about this until later on in the show, it was impossible to forget that the reason Damon is seeking his revenge is because Stefan was the one who turned him into a vampire. However, when Damon changes through the years, he forgives Stefan and stops tormenting him.

Not Telling Jenna

This is another one of those dumb decisions that the characters make that fans can’t get over. “Literally no one telling aunt Jenna,” said Reddit user Dumb_assh, even mocking their reasoning, “Like oh klaus couldn’t get to Katherine so he killed her whole family but let’s not tell Jenna about vampires bc it’ll keep her safe?”

It’s a valid point they make because perhaps Jenna knowing at least the basics of what was going on would have prevented her untimely death. But they left her in the dark until it was too late to save her. She deserved better, and not telling her was one of Elena’s worst decisions.

Dumb Decisions

With good TV shows, it’s easy to imagine what one would do in the character’s situation. And sometimes they would handle it better. Reddit user gabyleann “When Katherine was body snatching Elena, and Elena was running towards Damon. Instead of screaming what Katherine was doing she just jumped in his arms.”

Of course, it was a highly stressful situation, but one can’t help but think that a lot of heartache could have been prevented if Elena just warned Damon instead of jumping into his arms. It was not one of her finest moments.

Caroline Sleeping With Klaus

“I found it disgusting how Caroline had sex with the same guy who killed her best friends aunt and her boyfriends mother,” said this Reddit user. It’s one of the most messed up things she ever did.

Klaus and Caroline were among the favorite couples on the show, their arc stretching across several episodes, or even seasons. However, even to Klaroline shippers and Caroline fans, this seemed inexcusable and cruel on her part.

Killing Lexi

“Damon killing Lexi just so he wouldn’t have to feel guilty looking at her. Knowing she was Stefan’s rock,” said Reddit user Objective-Ad9800. It’s a popular opinion that Damon killing Lexi was one of the low points of his life.

Granted, Damon did quite a few things because of his guilt or his poor dealing with rejection, and they were horrible. It was odd that Stefan in the end decided to forgive this and move on. But fans continued to miss Lexi’s character, and they can’t get over it. Ironically, Stefan killed Damon’s best friend seasons later while having his humanity off, which just proved how similar the brothers were.

Stalking

Many fans found it more than weird when after a few episodes it became clear that Stefan was stalking Elena. He was a century-old vampire, who joined a local high school, just so he could get to know her. It was something fans could never let go of.

Reddit user UKnowDaTruth said: “Stefan stalking Elena for months and keeping information from her still doesn’t sit well with me.” Despite Stefan previously saving her life in the car accident, this still doesn’t excuse him for inserting himself into her life.

Stefan’s Wrongdoings

While all the main characters face a lot of scrutiny about what they did, they usually seem to be forgiving of Stefan’s actions, trying to find excuses. But not all of them, and Reddit user bexsapphic didn’t hesitate to point it out: “Stefan force feeding Elena and trying to drive her off of Wickery Bridge. I don’t know how Elena ever forgave him for that.”

While Stefan was in his ripper stage, he did many unforgivable things, and this was one of them. Trying to kill Elena in the way her parents died previously was not only shocking but cruel as well. But then again, these characters have forgiven way worse, like Damon killing Elena’s brother and Caroline sleeping with the murderer of her boyfriend’s mom.

Stefan Killing Enzo

Stefan in his ripper stage is not fun to be around. Not only did he hurt everyone around him, but he caused some serious damage. One of these things was killing Enzo, who was the love of Bonnie’s life. “I am not a huge Enzo fan, but he was the love of Bonnie’s life, and they just swept it under the rug like no big deal,” said Reddit user mentalgeler.

This wasn’t hugely addressed on the show, as Stefan became human. But as with most storylines involving Bonnie, the writers simply pretended it was no big deal, and like the same user added “They even expected Bonnie to attend his wedding.” That was messed up.

Damon Killing Jeremy

“When Damon snapped Jeremy’s neck at the beginning of season 2, that scene still makes me so upset. Damon didn’t even see his ring when he killed him,” said Reddit user milkyway_cow. This was one of the most popular things named in the thread, and most fans seem to agree.

Many were in shock when Damon snapped Jeremy’s neck and felt relief after they realized the younger Gilbert was still alive. Damon’s redemption arc was interesting, as he even continued to become a friend and almost a guardian to Jeremy while Elena was in college.
