The Umbrella Academy Just Debunked Its Biggest Allison Theory Before Season 4

The Umbrella Academy has debunked its biggest Allison theory ahead of season 4, raising questions about what her character arc will look like during the Netflix show’s final outing. The ending of The Umbrella Academy season 3 sees Allison and Reginald Hargreeves making a deal to reset the show’s timeline once more. Although the Hargreeves siblings finally accept the apocalypse in season 3, Allison saves them and resets their universe, ensuring she’s able to reunite with her husband and daughter, even if it’s against her siblings’ wishes.

The Umbrella Academy‘s newest timeline also sees the Hargreeves losing their powers. The reset raises numerous questions about Allison’s motives and circumstances. And one theory that seeks to explain Allison’s final moments in season 3 has been proven wrong by Netflix’s new Umbrella Academy season 4 footage. Netflix offered a brief glimpse of the upcoming final season during its 2024 preview, and it confirmed where Allison is after the events of season 3.

The Umbrella Academy Season 4 Footage Debunks A Popular Allison Theory

Netflix’s first look at The Umbrella Academy season 4 shows Allison drinking with the rest of her siblings, debunking a popular Allison Hargreeves theory that surfaced at the end of the third outing: that she is actually dead during her final scene with Claire. Allison’s last moments in season 3 show her reuniting with her daughter, and some viewers have since interpreted Allison’s happy ending as her version of heaven. Given that Allison’s injuries aren’t healed after the fight at Hotel Oblivion, this theory makes a certain amount of sense. However, it doesn’t appear to be the truth.

Allison’s alive and well in the footage for The Umbrella Academy season 4, suggesting she actually does start over with her family during season 3’s finale. This means she’ll get the chance to redeem herself for her betrayal in season 3. Presumably, that’s why the Hargreeves are actually speaking to her in Netflix’s teaser for The Umbrella Academy season 4 — though what brings them back together remains a mystery.

Why Are The Hargreeves Siblings Drinking With Allison In The Umbrella Academy Season 4?

The Umbrella Academy Just Debunked Its Biggest Allison Theory Before Season 4

Allison’s appearance in The Umbrella Academy season 4 footage will come as a relief to those hoping to see more of her character, but the glimpse of the Hargreeves drinking doesn’t explain why they’re spending time together. Allison betrays her siblings at the end of season 3, so it’s hard to see why they’d want to see her again, much less share a drink with her. Given that Allison gets her life back, it’s also dubious that she’d join her siblings in whatever they’re up to in the new episodes.

It seems inevitable that the Hargreeves will want to reset their timeline yet again, which means their interests wouldn’t align with Allison’s. This could change if something threatens Allison’s family, bringing the gang back together to save the world one last time. Such a development would also set Allison up for a redemption arc, which is heavily needed after her actions throughout The Umbrella Academy season 3. However, the Netflix series needs to approach such a storyline with care.

The Umbrella Academy Season 4 Can’t Redeem Allison Too Quickly

A redemption arc for Allison seems inevitable in The Umbrella Academy season 4, but the show shouldn’t rush Allison’s much-needed growth. The Umbrella Academy will struggle to redeem Allison after season 3, which made her an unpopular character within the show’s fan base. While Allison could be forgiven for siding with her father for the sake of her husband and daughter, her treatment of Luther and Viktor is indefensible. The series brings out the darkest side of Allison during her interactions with them, and this will make it difficult for viewers to forgive her.

With that in mind, the final season must go slowly with Allison’s redemption rather than diving right in. That’s the only way such a storyline will feel natural or believable, and it’s important that her development doesn’t give audiences whiplash. If the series attempts to make her one of the good guys without proving she’s learned and changed, it will fail to get viewers on her side. Hopefully, The Umbrella Academy season 4 takes the lengthier approach, which will pay off in the long run.
