The Two Lee Child Books Reacher Season 3 Should Avoid Adapting

After season 2, Reacher season 3 will have the option of picking one of the 24 remaining Lee Child novels, but it should strictly avoid adapting two books. In a recent update video, Alan Ritchson confirmed Reacher season 3’s filming is already underway. However, since he did not announce story details for the next season and reveal which Lee Child book it will adapt, it is hard not to wonder what lies ahead for Jack Reacher in the Amazon series.

Reacher stayed loyal to its source material by portraying the story of Lee Child’s first Jack Reacher novel, Killing Floor, in its first season. However, it surprised viewers by skipping nine novels from the series and adapting Bad Luck and Trouble in season 2. The show’s creators’ decision to jump to the 11th book proved that they had no intentions of following the source material’s order. Owing to this, one can only speculate which book’s story season 3 will depict. Hopefully, Reacher season 3 will avoid adapting two books from the original book series.

Roscoe will be missed in Reacher season 2, but a Killing Floor quote perfectly explains why the show’s second installment is better off without her.

Tom Cruise’s Jack Reacher Movies Already Adapted Lee Child’s One Shot & Never Go Back

Lee Child’s One Shot easily ranks among his best Jack Reacher novels because it not only presents the titular character with one of his most complex moral dilemmas but also makes him face an equally formidable villain. The author’s Never Go Back may not necessarily rank among his best works, but it effectively raises the stakes for Jack Reacher by getting him embroiled in a legal turmoil that puts him at odds with the army, the FBI, and the police. Since both books do an incredible job at bringing a sense of novelty to Reacher’s crime-solving adventures, they would be good fits for Reacher season 3’s storyline.

However, Tom Cruise’s Jack Reacher movies have already adapted One Shot and Never Go Back, which is a solid reason for the Amazon show to floss over them. Amazon’s Reacher has created its own identity and established itself as a superior adaptation of Lee Child’s novels. Owing to this, it should maintain its originality and fresh take on the source material without trying to retell the stories the movies have already told.

Why Reacher Season 3 Should Adapt Lee Child’s Tripwire Or 61 Hours

Alan Ritchson as Jack Reacher in Amazon's Reacher

Like One Shot, Lee Child’s Tripwire and 61 Hours are often touted as the best books in the series. What makes Tripwire worthy of being adapted in season 3 is how it portrays Jack Reacher in his most vulnerable state. By the time the book ends, Reacher has a severe injury that stays with him long after the book’s pages stop turning. For a character like Jack Reacher, who rarely struggles to overpower his enemies, his Tripwire injury could take the Amazon series’ storyline in a new, intriguing direction.

61 Hours not only unfolds in the picturesque Bolton, South Dakota but also walks through some of the toughest challenges Reacher has to face in the book series. By getting Reacher involved in a grand police conspiracy that also involves a dangerous Latin American drug kingpin, 61 Hours establishes that Reacher, too, can make mistakes. The book also has a compelling romance plot that will traverse well to the small screen. Therefore, if not Tripwire, Reacher season 3 should adapt 61 Hours.
