The Tick Season 2 Has Been Officially Ordered by Amazon

Season 2 of The Tick has been officially ordered by Amazon. The spoof of comic book superheroes will be heading back to Amazon soon with the back half of its first season getting the “gang back together” to battle The Terror, the big bad introduced at the end of season 1A.

The Tick centers on a blue-suited superhero and his sidekick Arthur. Created by then 18-year-old cartoonist Ben Edlund as a mascot for the comic book store where he purchased his comics, the character became popular and a comic series was soon financed. The Tick joined Amazon in 2016 with Peter Serafinowicz playing the title character in a pilot directed by Wally Pfister. The first half of the season premiered on August 25th, 2017.

A second season of The Tick was greenlit by Amazon with Ben Edlund (Firefly, Gotham, Supernatural) returning along with Serafinowicz and his costar Griffin Newman, with new casting to be announced as it becomes available. The second season will have 10 episodes and premiere exclusively on Amazon Prime in 2019. Receiving a 93 percent critics score on Rotten Tomatoes, Sharon Yugado head of Amazon scripted series is excited to continue to bring the series to Amazon subscribers.

“Ben has created a resounding hit while Peter and Griffin have brought Tick and Arthur to indelible life, We can’t wait to bring fans more of the Tick universe soon.”

Creator and executive producer Edlund was just as effusive with praise for the superhero spoof, excited to continue to have the cast work together and broaden the world that they’ve all created through an exciting first season.

“I am so excited that Amazon wants to continue this wildly fruitful collaboration and that this amazing cast gets to stay together, and that we get to build this mythos further, wider, deeper, and taller. We got a good ball of mud spinning with the right tilt of axis, I’m very happy we have this opportunity to keep peopling it.”

The Tick himself reached out (keeping with the show’s tongue and cheek theme) and commented on the renewal clearly showing that it’s the destiny of fans to continue to watch.

“You feel it too, don’t you? Destiny’s warm hand in the small of your back, pushing, pushing. She’s on a roll.”

For fans hoping to heed the hero’s call, you can catch up on The Tick currently on Amazon prime. There’s just enough time for interested parties to prepare for the back half of the first season. The show’s grounded nature and relatable characters make it a must watch for any superhero fans looking for a good television show.

Even for people who might be turned off by having to be an Amazon Prime subscriber, the satire can be a break from the amount of superhero programming today. While television is slowly entering the realm of there being a superhero show for every viewer, moments of levity are usually balanced out by moments of horror. The Tick has its constant humor balanced out with the occasional moment of serious discussion which, for anyone who might be feeling a degree of fatigue, makes it excellent television. Looking for a little support in an age of massively dramatic superhero fare? Don’t worry, The Tick‘s got your back.
