The Spider-Verse’s Venom Tease Proves Miles Tragedy Will Only Get Worse

The Spider-Verse’s Venom Tease Proves Miles Tragedy Will Only Get Worse

A subtle Venom reference in Spider-Man: Across the Spider-Verse teases that the imminent tragedy Miles Morales may soon face could get a lot worse. Although the Spider-Verse trilogy is set to conclude with Beyond the Spider-Verse and a final reckoning with The Spot, Miles will likely continue being Spider-Man when and if his biggest foe yet is defeated and the Spider-Verse is saved. However, more villains connected to key canon events could still be ready to strike in the aftermath.

As seen in Across the Spider-Verse, canon events are moments most Spider-Man variants experience across the multiverse, connecting together on the Web of Life and Destiny. The biggest event referenced in Across the Spider-Verse is the death of a police captain. This is typically Gwen Stacy’s father in most realities, but in Miles’ case, the police captain in danger is his own father during The Spot’s imminent attack on Miles’ universe. Wanting to save his father’s life, Miles clashed with Spider-Man 2099 and the Spider-Society as canon events are believed to be necessary for the stability of reality. However, one canon event in particular could make Miles’ future even darker.

Across The Spider-Verse’s Venom Canon Event Tease Makes Miles’ Future More Grim

During Spider-Man 2099’s explanation of canon events and the Great Web of Life and Destiny, 6 different versions of Spider-Men struggling with the Venom symbiote can be seen. This includes Tobey Maguire’s Spider-Man struggling to take off his own symbiote as seen in Sam Raimi’s Spider-Man 3. As a result, this suggests that Spider-Man bonding with Venom (and the corruptive arc that follows) is a canon event across realities. As such, this would potentially include Miles himself at some point in his timeline.

Again, the Spider-Verse trilogy has kept its focus on The Spot being transformed as Miles’ ultimate big bad. However, the existence of Venom as a canon event means that it would be one Miles has yet to experience, and perhaps wouldn’t until after the upcoming Beyond the Spider-Verse and the potential death of his father. Keeping that in mind, the idea that Miles could become corrupted by the Venom symbiote in the wake of losing his dad is both logical and extremely tragic.

Across The Spider-Verse’s Venom Tease Hints That Canon Events Aren’t Necessary

Although bonding with Venom has been referenced as a canon event in Across the Spider-Verse, not every canon event may happen for every version of Spider-Man, just like not every canon event occurs in exactly the same way with specific details being different depending on the Webslinger and their particular reality. As such, perhaps there’s hope for Miles Morales’ future in the aftermath of the Spider-Verse trilogy, rather than one where he’s fated to be corrupted by Venom. Although Beyond the Spider-Verse lost its official release date, here’s hoping the epic trilogy ender comes sooner rather than later.
