The ‘Spider-Man From Hell’ Has Officially Arrived in Marvel’s Universe

The ‘Spider-Man From Hell’ Has Officially Arrived in Marvel’s Universe

Warning! This post contains SPOILERS for Amazing Spider-Man #17In the latest issue of Marvel Comics’ Amazing Spider-Man, the Otherplace known as Limbo just received its very own twisted version of the iconic Wallcrawler. A realm filled with demons, Limbo is currently ruled by Madelyne Pryor, the dark clone of the X-Men’s Jean Grey. As seen in the current Dark Web event, Pryor has joined forces with Peter Parker’s dark clone Chasm who’s been making some drastic changes to Limbo and its demonic residents. As such, Ben Reilly has inadvertently created a demonic version of Spider-Man (who seems to genuinely want to do good).

Having sent Spider-Man to Limbo in a bid to steal Peter Parker’s soul, Chasm has created a dark mirror of New York within the twisted dimension in the new Amazing Spider-Man #17 from Zeb Wells and Ed McGuinness, complete with a demonic rogues’ gallery for Spider-Man known as the Insidious Six. However, one of the demons set to be transformed gets it all backwards after Peter protected him from a rival demon. Inspired by Peter’s heroism, this confused demon sought to become “Parker-Man”. Despite being denied powers, another demon who recently faced Eddie Brock’s Venom used a residual piece of the symbiote to cast a spell, turning this formerly puny demon into his very own Spider-Man. Having heard that he got it backward, this new wall-crawling demon arrives to help Spider-Man fight the Insidious Six, calling himself “Rek-Rap”.

Limbo Gets Its Very Own Backwards Spider-Man: Rek-Rap

The ‘Spider-Man From Hell’ Has Officially Arrived in Marvel’s Universe

While he’s clearly still confused by the issue’s end, Rek-Rap definitely has spirit in his mission to be just like Peter Parker. It wouldn’t be wrong to assume that showing kindness to a demon from Limbo in the Marvel Universe is a pretty rare occurrence. As such, this particular demon’s transformation into his own Spider-Man is a testament to the real Spider-Man and his ever-present responsibility as a hero.

As far as what Rek-Rap means for the rest of Marvel’s Dark Web event, it stands to reason that Spider-Man will now have a much-needed ally as he tries to escape Limbo along with J. Jonah Jameson and Robbie Robertson (whom Chasm banished as well). However, Chasm will undoubtedly try to stop them with his army of demons on loan from Madelyne Pryor. Spider-Man isn’t quite out of the woods just yet.

Thanks to Dark Web, Limbo has become very busy with all of its various new guests. The X-Men are currently in Limbo as well thanks to Pryor who’s seeking her own clone revenge against Jean Grey. Likewise, Black Cat and a newly superpowered-Mary Jane Watson are in Marvel’s version of Hell as well. Regardless, it will be exciting to see what becomes of Rek-Rap once the crossover event ends. Thanks to Chasm, he would have his own twisted version of New York to protect. Amazing Spider-Man #17 is on sale now from Marvel Comics.
