The Son Of Superman Gets His Own Quicksilver X-Men Moment

Warning! Spoilers ahead for Superman: Son of Kal-El #4

In the latest issue of DC Comics’ Superman: Son of Kal-El, Jon Kent gets his own X-Men Quicksilver moment while saving his loved ones from an exploding building. Officially on his own due to his father leaving Earth to face Mongul on Warworld, Jon and the rest of the Superman family were immediately attacked in the last issue, which saw the Kent Farm being destroyed. Now, this new issue shows Jon leaping into action using his super speed.

Previously in Superman: Son of Kal-El, Jon Kent made a lot of waves by publically standing against President Bendix of Gamorra, joining a protest in support of the refugees who were seeking asylum from the nation’s corruption. While it was the right thing to do, it’s an example of something his father never did as the original Man of Steel, believing that it wasn’t his place to intervene in politics since he’s an alien not originally from Earth. However, Jon Kent’s new Superman was born on Earth and is half-human, motivating him to take a stronger stance to make the kind of positive impact Clark Kent never did. However, this new issue reveals that there are also consequences Kal-El never had to deal with as a result.

As soon as the original Superman left Earth, President Bendix gave the order to have the Kent Farm destroyed using an explosively powerful meta-human (against her will). Now, Superman: Son of Kal-El #4 from writer Tom Taylor and artist Daniele Di Nicuolo sees Superman having to act fast to save his grandparents and future boyfriend Jay Nakamura. The ordeal provides Jon with his own Quicksilver scene straight out of the X-Men films, such as when Peter Maximoff saved all of Charles Xavier’s mutant students before the school exploded in X-Men: Apocalypse.

While this issue certainly marks the end of the Kent Farm (for now), it’s rather cool to see Jon’s super-speed in action from his own perspective. Resembling Quicksilver’s scenes in Days of Future Past and Apocalpyse, everything has been slowed to point of being almost frozen, giving Jon plenty of time to make sure he can get his grandparents to safety, as they had been sitting around the dinner table when Bendix’s agents dropped their captured meta from a plane, effectively using her as a human nuke. However, it seems as though Jay didn’t need any help from Jon, seeing as how he surprisingly has powers of his own.

Clearly, Jon’s super-speed is on par with his father’s, and it’s pretty cool to see. However, combined with his recent feat of saving 472 people from a collapsing building (including their pets), it’s possible that Jon could be even faster than Kal-El. In any case, seeing Jon’s speed from his perspective is a fun sequence in Superman: Son of Kal-El #4, much like how Quicksilver’s super-speed was featured in the X-Men films.
