The Society: 5 Couples That Are Perfect Together (& 5 That Make No Sense)

The Society: 5 Couples That Are Perfect Together (& 5 That Make No Sense)

Netflix’s genre-defying series, The Society, has been canceled just two weeks before its second season was scheduled to film. Fans will be left wondering what happens next to the teens who are left stranded in what seems to be a parallel universe that resembles their hometown in New England.

With a premise similar to Lord Of The Flies, the show centered around the teens’ struggle to form a new society in the absence of adult supervision. As a result, the students split into several smaller groups and form unlikely friendships. Some of these friendships blossom into romance, while previously strong relationships crumble.

PERFECT: Allie & Will

The Society: 5 Couples That Are Perfect Together (& 5 That Make No Sense)

Allie and Will are childhood friends, and if anything, the many struggles they go through prove that their relationship can survive anything.

At first, Will is hesitant to enter a romantic relationship with her because he’s afraid. Later, it’s Allie who fears she will become a selfish leader if they decide to become a couple. But in the end, they realize that they need each other. Unfortunately, they’re also held hostage by Campbell and fans will never know what their fate will be.

MAKES NO SENSE: Allie & Harry

The Society Alex Fitzalan and Kathryn Newton

Harry and Allie aren’t technically a couple, but many fans seem to think they should be. This is interesting because their romance has no substance to it, and they both know it.

Harry treats Allie and her sister very poorly and becomes her rival in the elections. He is not a kind person, and Allie doesn’t respect him at all. Still, she wonders what it could have been like for them if they were friends.

PERFECT: Sam & Grizz

Was there ever a TV romance purer than Grizz and Sam’s? The language barrier between them doesn’t matter, nor does Grizz’s friendship with the other football players.

Grizz tries to learn sign language so that he may better communicate with Sam – or, as he says, “in [his] language”, even though Sam can lip read. On the other hand, Sam feels that he has let Grizz down by saying that he’s the father of Becca’s baby, which proves how great Sam is as a person.

MAKES NO SENSE: Becca &?

One of the greatest mysteries of the show, funnily enough, is the identity of whoever has fathered Becca’s baby. She refuses to tell anyone and becomes defensive whenever the topic is brought up.

Whoever the guy is, she’s either too scared or too ashamed to admit it. Becca doesn’t seem like one to make brash choices, so it’s a real shame that fans will never learn who it is (unless the show’s creator decides to reveal this information).

PERFECT: Cassandra & Gordie

Unfortunately, fans never get to see this relationship thrive because of Cassandra’s death. But while she’s alive, this is one of the sweetest romances on the show.

Uncomplicated by any past wrongdoings, these two are able to form a friendship based on their intellectual compatibility and grow to care for one another. Gordie even vows to learn medicine so that he may help Cassandra with her heart condition.

MAKES NO SENSE: Elle & Campbell

Campbell is drawn to Elle from the very beginning of the series. When he takes a seat next to her on the bus, she seems kind of confused, like she doesn’t know him well – only his reputation.

For some reason, Campbell keeps pursuing her, but it’s unclear why. Perhaps he’s attracted to her cold, aloof nature, and the fact that she doesn’t have any friends. But why does she allow him to get close to her when she knows what kind of a person he is?

PERFECT: Becca & Sam

Again, Sam and Becca aren’t technically a romantic couple, but they do present themselves as one to protect Becca. In fact, early in the series, they agree that they’re one of the best couples in their little society.

They never fight, and they never have sex either, as Becca says. “Except for the no fighting, that’s kind of like marriage,” Sam replies with a laugh. When people learn that Becca is pregnant, Sam agrees to tell everyone that he’s the father even though everyone knows he’s gay. The lengths they go to almost make them seem like they really are a couple.

MAKES NO SENSE: Cassandra & Harry

Everyone seems to agree that Cassandra and Harry seem to share some sort of unexplored history. Even the cast members have commented on the fact that their flirtatiousness hints at something more than what they externally present. It seems strange that Cassandra would be interested in someone like Harry.

Harry often opposes whatever Cassandra stands for and even speaks very badly of her behind her back, but at the same time, he feels guilty after her death. His spiral into depression comes just after her murder, but whether or not it’s directly related is unclear.

PERFECT: Luke & Helena

Luke and Helena have one of the most complicated relationships on the show. And actually, they’re only perfect until they’re not. This couple seems to be in love and their relationship seems very healthy for most of the series.

Luke respects Helena’s devotion to religion, and she doesn’t try to change him, either. In fact, they’re so in love that they plan to get married in New Ham’s first wedding. But Luke sees her in her wedding dress, which is as sure a sign as any that things are about to go south for them, and they do.

MAKES NO SENSE: Kelly & Will

Their tentative romance seems to hint at something between in the past, but it’s never revealed what this is. However, what makes the least sense about their relationship is Kelly’s approach to it.

She sort of leads Will on at the beginning, but then continues to refuse him every step of the way. It’s clear from the beginning that this is a couple that is never going to work. However, the pair make great friends.
