The Simpsons Mashed Up With The Jetsons In Art Is A Surprisingly Perfect Crossover

The Simpsons and The Jetsons meet in a new piece of art, and this is one crossover that would’ve been perfect. First airing in 1989 and currently in the midst of season 35, The Simpsons holds the record as the longest-running animated sitcom ever, following the misadventures of an American family in the town of Springfield. The Jetsons, on the other hand, premiered in the early 1960s, and follows a family living in an imagined retro future, far removed from events in Springfield.

Impressive crossover art shared by Chris Gelsi on Instagram now imagines the worlds of the two shows combining. Check out the image below:

Would A Simpsons & Jetsons Crossover Work?

Although The Jetsons has been off the air for more than 30 years, the show remains emblematic of a specific time in history, capturing visions of a future (the year 2062, to be exact) that many believed would come to pass. This setting is one of the reasons why a crossover might struggle.

One of the reasons why The Simpsons has remained popular and relevant for so long is because it feels relatable. While obviously exaggerated and fantastical in many respects, the show is firmly planted in a small town with characters occupying the middle class. Taking the essence of these characters and putting them in the slick, futuristic world of The Jetsons could result in the loss of the specific way of life that The Simpsons depicts, and thus the show might not work as well.

That being said, both shows are ultimately about characters and their problems and relationships, and this similarity alone could be enough to make a crossover succeed. Characters like Homer, Marge, Bart, and Lisa, for example, are no longer just beloved because of their place in Springfield, and many of The Simpsons‘ one-off episodes, including Christmas specials that crossover with Star Wars, and Halloween adventures, prove that they can be just as entertaining when in new settings and worlds. Although it could work, The Jetsons has been off the air for decades now, so it’s unlikely to happen anytime soon.
