The Sandman’s Constantine Actor Reacts To Keanu Reeves’ Constantine 2

As audiences continue to celebrate the film’s development The Sandman‘s Constantine actor Jenna Coleman shares her reaction to Keanu Reeves’ Constantine 2. Coleman starred in Netflix’s adaptation of Neil Gaiman’s beloved comic book series as Johanna Constantine, a female version of the British occult detective who assists Tom Sturridge’s Morpheus in reacquiring his totems of power. Despite initial controversy over the switch from John to Johanna Constantine, Coleman ultimately scored strong reviews for her turn in The Sandman, with many eager to see more of her in the future.

Before Coleman returns, however, audiences can look forward to Keanu Reeves returning for Constantine 2, a sequel the actor has long desired to make that was recently confirmed to be in development with original director Francis Lawrence also returning. Warner Bros.’ shift towards the new film ultimately resulted in the cancelation of the HBO Max reboot with His House‘s Sope Dirisu having been in talks to star. While the future of The Sandman remains unclear, one star is addressing Reeves stepping back into his cult favorite role.

In a recent interview with The Hollywood Reporter, Jenna Coleman was asked about Keanu Reeves’ Constantine 2 getting off the ground. The Sandman Constantine actor noted she couldn’t offer much on the project, but joked her work was key to the film finally moving forward. See what Coleman said below:

I couldn’t comment, but Constantine in his and her many forms seems to be making a bit of a comeback. I’d love to take credit for it!

Though Coleman may not offer a proper statement on Reeves’ Constantine 2, her interest in seeing more of the occult detective on screen is sure to ring true with fans of the character. Even prior to The Sandman‘s release, Coleman had expressed her interest in leading a Johanna Constantine spinoff show, having recently also shared that Gaiman is similarly interested in making the project happen and is currently developing a possible idea with showrunner Allan Heinberg. Given Netflix has yet to greenlight The Sandman season 2, it’s understandable Coleman’s Constantine spinoff may not ultimately get off the ground, though her devotion to the character speaks volumes for fans eager to see respectful portrayals of the beloved character.

Even if Coleman doesn’t return for a Sandman spinoff, Constantine’s future on screen at least has Keanu Reeves’ Constantine 2 to look forward to. Despite receiving mixed reviews at the time of its release, the original Constantine movie has garnered a cult following in the years since and Reeves has frequently discussed his hopes to play the character again, even sharing he had tried and failed to sell WB on it over the years. While audiences await updates on Coleman and Reeves’ future in the role, they can catch up with The Sandman streaming on Netflix and Reeves’ Constantine streaming on HBO Max.
