The Sandman Show Started Filming Without Announcing The Cast

Production for the TV adaptation of The Sandman is already underway, despite not yet announcing the show’s cast. The fantasy series is based on the best-selling comic series by Neil Gaiman of the same name, which has been praised for its unique story and its progressive representation of a transgender character. The story that was initially released in the early ’90s is finally making its way to Netflix for a modern audience.

As of right now, the cast of this new adaptation remains a mystery, though plenty of famous actors have been involved with the story over the years. Gaiman has attempted to adapt The Sandman before as a movie with Joseph Gordon-Levitt, but the project never materialized. James McAvoy has also been involved with the story, appearing in an Audible adaptation of the comics recently. After Gaiman announced on Twitter that the show would begin production soon, fans of The Sandman may have expected Netflix or Gaiman to reveal who would appear in the show. However, this was not the case.

According to a tweet from Neil Gaiman, The Sandman has already begun filming. The author confirmed that production began this past Thursday, despite the cast not being announced to the public. He also suggested that the show would announce its cast sometime soon but did not state precisely when this would be.

Despite The Sandman cast remaining a secret, there has been plenty of speculation about who might be starring in the Netflix show. Earlier this month, a rumor surfaced that Liam Hemsworth might be in line to play The Corinthian, one of the nightmare characters from the series. Other rumors have indicated that Tom Sturridge of Sweetbitter will be playing the lead role of Dream. Netflix has not yet confirmed any of these theories.

The casting of these iconic characters will make a massive difference as to whether the show will succeed. The role of Dream especially could make or break the series, and not every actor may pull it off. But even though much of The Sandman series remains a mystery, long-time fans of the comic are sure to be excited that the show has finally begun production. And since Gaiman has unofficially promised a casting announcement sometime soon, anticipation for The Sandman will only increase from here.
