“The Rise of Kid Venom”: Marvel’s Scariest Symbiote Is Getting a Twisted New Sidekick

Marvel’s upcoming Death of the Venomverse is promising to continue a years-long reshaping of the Venom mythos, and a gorgeous new cover by Luciano Vecchio provides fans their first look at the iconic new hero Kid Venom, who will feature in a series of stories written by creator the acclaimed manga artist Taigami.

Marvel’s Death of the Venomverse limited series will be the finale of the Summer of Symbiotes event, spread across titles like Venom, Miles Morales, Cult of Carnage: Misery, and Red Golbin, which will culminate in a universe-shattering showdown with the now godlike Carnage.

Recently revealed by Marvel, Kid Venom – a 10th Century Japanese teenager named Kintaro who bonds with the new symbiote Clinter – will burst onto the scene in a series of backups starting in Death of the Venomverse #2, written and designed by manga artist Taigami (Unsung Hero) whose design pages for Kintaro are truly gorgeous.

Hailing from 10th century Japan, Kintaro will do anything to protect his village from mysterious symbiote attacks, even if it means bonding to a symbiote of his own! As he attaches himself to a new symbiote entity dubbed Clinter, Kintaro embraces his wild new abilities as Kid Venom! But is he in way over his head when Carnage’s fury swings his way?

Carnage, now separated from his longtime host Cletus Kasady, has spent the last several months attacking super-powered beings and absorbing their abilities, and now after creating a new weapon – the sword “All Blood” – the terrifying symbiote is planning to traverse the Multiverse. Carnage’s ultimate goal is to become a new King in Black, and he is accomplishing that goal by slaughtering powerful symbiotes from across every universe, which is where the new Kid Venom Kintaro comes into play. While Luciano Vecchio’s gorgeous cover for Death of the Venomverse places Kintaro alongside Venom, there is no confirmation whether the two symbiote heroes will actually be working together, since Kid Venom is from a different reality.

That being said, the recent End of the Spider-verse event brought together Spider-heroes from across the Multiverse to fight against Shathra, so it would not be a leap at all to think that Kid Venom could partner up with Dylan or Eddie Brock’s Venom in their final battle against Carnage. Created by acclaimed manga artist Taigami, Kintaro is a gorgeously designed young hero who bonds with the symbiote “Clinter” – perhaps named after the symbiote home world Klyntar – to protect his 10th Century Japanese village from an attack by Carnage. Kid Venom’s story will take place in several backups throughout Death of the Venomverse, which will hopefully culminate with Kintaro joining symbiote heroes from Earth-616 to stop Carnage from reigning supreme over the Multiverse.

Kintaro Is The Most Recent In A Long Line Of “Kid Symbiotes”

Dylan Brock Venom and New Red Goblin (Dark Web)

Hopefully, Kid Venom will get to partner with two other infamous “Kid Symbiotes,” Dylan Brock’s Venom and Normie Osborn’s Red Goblin, who have both been starring in their own ongoing titles. Dylan brought Normie back into the symbiote mix during the Dark Web event, and with his mother Liz Allan becoming the new host of the symbiote Misery, there is no doubt that both Dylan and Normie will be involved in the final battle against Carnage. Kid Venom is an exciting addition because he is an entirely new character with no prior history or lore, meaning his creator Taigami has a lot more creative control over the aesthetic and personality of the bold new hero.

With the Summer of Symbiotes just beginning to warm up Venom and all his allies are going to need all the help they can get to take on Carnage, and Kintaro’s Kid Venom may be just the fresh new hero Earth-616 needs to take down Carnage once and for all.

Death of the Venomverse #2 from Marvel Comics debuts on August 16, 2023.
