The Originals’ Klaus Will NEVER Cameo In Legacies

The Originals’ Klaus Will NEVER Cameo In Legacies

Sorry, Klaus Mikaelson fans – The Originals character will never appear in Legacies, and here’s why. Played by British actor Joseph Morgan, Klaus Mikaelson originated on The Vampire Diaries and made his first appearance in the supernatural drama’s second season. Though Klaus was a villainous vampire, he quickly became a fan favorite and became the focus of his very own show The Originals – a spin-off following Klaus and the extended Mikaelson family as they grapple for control with other supernatural beings in their hometown of New Orleans.

Unfortunately for fans, The Originals came to an end in 2018 after five seasons. On the upside, the universe of The Originals didn’t end there as the show was soon succeeded by another spinoff – Legacies – which focuses on Klaus’ daughter Hope (Danielle Rose Russell). The show returns to The Vampire Diaries’ original setting of Mystic Falls and follows Hope – a powerful tribrid with witch, werewolf and vampire blood – as she attends the Salvatore Boarding School for the Young & Gifted, a place where young supernatural beings learn to harness their powers.

Apart from Danielle Rose Russell, several other cast members from both The Vampire Diaries and The Originals have reprised their roles on Legacies, including Matt Davis as Alaric Saltzman and Riley Voelkel as Klaus’ sister and Hope’s aunt Freya. Two seasons in, however, the spinoff has yet to feature a cameo from Klaus and unfortunately for his fans, it never will.

The Originals’ Klaus Will NEVER Cameo In Legacies

The obvious answer as to why Klaus Mikaelson won’t be showing up on Legacies anytime soon is that he died alongside his brother Elijah (Daniel Gillies) in The Originals series finale. That said, stranger things have happened in the Vampire DiariesOriginalsLegacies shared universe than dead characters reappearing, so Klaus’ death doesn’t necessarily rule out a cameo. According to Joseph Morgan, however, it definitely won’t be happening.

In a 2020 interview with TV Guide, Morgan stated that he would never make a cameo on Legacies because he feels like Klaus’ story ended perfectly with the conclusion of The Originals and that him reappearing would cheapen the character’s journey. In his own words:

I have The Originals box set on my shelf, and it’s a beautiful thing because it’s five DVD sets that are a complete story from beginning to end of this guy, Klaus Michaelson … So I just feel like to come back as a ghost or a flashback or something, for me, that journey, that story has ended. That’s the complete story, and it just doesn’t feel right to me to do that.”

No doubt the news that Klaus Mikaelson will never appear in Legacies is a disappointment to many followers of the character but for those jonesing for their Joseph Morgan fix, all is not lost as the British actor recently appeared on dystopian drama Brave New World which airs on Peacock and is adapted from Aldous Huxley’s seminal novel.
