The Ones Who Live Hints A Destroyed Walking Dead Community Could Return

Warning: Spoilers for The Walking Dead: The Ones Who Live episode 2

A key plot development in The Walking Dead: The Ones Who Live episode 2 opens the door for a community once thought to be lost forever to make a comeback. Over the years, The Walking Dead franchise has been host to a long list of tragedies, some of which pertaining to the eradication of entire settlements. Communities have been wiped off the map through various means, with the most common cause being The Walking Dead’s Civic Republic Military.

The evils of the CRM were on full display in both Fear the Walking Dead and The Walking Dead: The World Beyond. Rick and Michonne’s spinoff has since provided a reminder of their destructive potential. In The Walking Dead: The Ones Who Live episode 2, Michonne and her new group of survivors crossed paths with a CRM helicopter, which immediately bombarded them with chlorine gas. The catastrophe instilled a hatred for the CRM in Michonne, but also raised the possibility of a defeated Walking Dead community returning to the franchise.

Omaha May Have Survivors In The Walking Dead: The Ones Who Live

The Ones Who Live Hints A Destroyed Walking Dead Community Could Return

What happened in The Ones Who Live episode 2 gives hope to the idea that Omaha isn’t completely gone. In World Beyond, Omaha was established as a community that housed over 100,000 people and an ally of the Civic Republic. They were destroyed by the CRM, who weaponized gas to take them off the board. The loss of all those lives at the hands of the CRM played a huge role in the story, as it served as evidence of the threat the organization posed to the wider world. However, Michonne and Nat surviving the same yellow gas means that it should not be a foregone conclusion that everyone at Omaha is dead.

Though not without great effort, Michonne and Nat escaped the CRM attack, endured the long-term effects of the gas, and managed to survive whilst the rest of their friends died. Michonne is living proof that the CRM’s strategy isn’t flawless. While it’s likely that most of the people who made up the Omaha settlement are indeed dead, it’s not impossible that some made it out and escaped the CRM. And considering that Omaha numbered over a 100,000, just a fraction of their community still being alive could still account for a lot of people.

How Possible Omaha Survivors Could Influence Rick & Michonne’s Story

Red light washes over Rick Grimes (Andrew Lincoln) in The Walking Dead - The Ones Who Live

The reveal that Omaha has survivors would be a significant turn of events, especially when considering the unfavorable odds Rick and Michonne are currently facing. As things stand, it’s just two people against the strongest known force in The Walking Dead’s world. It’s hard to imagine them escaping – much less stopping – the CRM without acquiring some formidable allies. If the CRM hasn’t been as thorough as they thought when it comes to eliminating potential enemies, they may have unwittingly created a powerful resource for The Walking Dead: The Ones Who Live’s heroes.
