The New Look Episode 7 Recap: 10 Biggest Reveals

The New Look Episode 7 Recap: 10 Biggest Reveals

Warning! This article contains SPOILERS for The New Look episode 7.

The New Look episode 7 saw Coco return to Paris briefly while Christian struggled with his new business partnership and Catherine grappled with survivor’s guilt. The New Look episode 6 partially focused on Coco’s battle with the Wertheimers, which began to parallel Christian’s experience with Boussac in episode 7. Though The New Look’s main characters appear to be at very different points in their careers, both are trying to start over with something new, as Christian builds House of Dior and Coco tries to regain control of Chanel.

The New Look is inspired by the careers of Christian Dior and Coco Chanel and their rivalry, though they’ve only shared one scene so far. With just three episodes left, viewers can hopefully look forward to them crossing paths more as Christian takes steps to become one of the biggest designers in Paris and Coco gets closer to her comeback. For the first time since The New Look episode 4, Coco and Christian were in Paris at the same time, offering the potential for another meeting between the designers.

Christian Told Lelong He Was Leaving

Lelong was surprised and upset

Christian Dior began his fashion career in The New Look as a designer for Lucien Lelong, and through their work together, they formed a close bond and friendship. Due to this, Christian put off telling Lelong he was leaving to start his own house. When he finally told him, Lelong was both surprised and upset with Christian, feeling somewhat betrayed by his friend, especially because he’d gone to work with Marcel Boussac, whom Lelong did not get along with.

Though she initially seemed scared of him during their reunion, he insisted on being there for Catherine. While Christian did his best to take care of his sister, she was able to talk to Hervé in ways she couldn’t with her brother. She told Hervé about the horrors she’d seen and experienced at Ravensbrück, and he provided an ear for her along with some advice to help her cope with her trauma and try to move on.

Coco wanted to make a new perfume

Coco’s next step in her fight against the Wertheimers in The New Look was to go behind their backs just as they had done to her. Since they were the only ones producing Chanel No. 5, she decided to make a new perfume, Chanel No. 1. The Wertheimers had been against selling a new perfume, but she and Henri still had the formulas from their past tests. Unfortunately for Coco, to make her plan work, she would have to return to Paris to see Henri, which seemed nearly impossible at the time.

7
Coco & Elsa Made Up

Coco told Elsa she’d be part of Chanel

Coco didn’t exactly welcome Elsa’s return in The New Look episode 6. However, she changed her attitude towards her old friend in episode 7. Coco and Elsa bonded over living in exile and needing money, and with Coco’s family back in France, it was nice to have a familiar face with her in Switzerland. Coco realized that they’d always be connected somehow, so they might as well embrace it.

To get Elsa to come with her to Madrid in The New Look episode 2, Coco promised her a stake in the new boutique she planned on opening in Milan. With Elsa eventually betraying Coco and Winston Churchill refusing to meet with them, Coco’s plan fell apart. In The New Look episode 7, Coco was determined to win her battle with the Wertheimers and once again promised Elsa a stake in Chanel when she regained control of her company.

Boussac was focused on grandiosity

When Christian proposed his vision to Boussac in The New Look episode 5, he focused on bringing joy and hope back to Paris through elegant high fashion. Boussac was known as “The King of Cotton” and was much more of a businessman than an artist like Christian. He wanted to build a large, grand house for Christian, while Christian felt that his house should be more intimate. Though Christian tried to tell Boussac this, his new business partner brushed his concerns aside, and Christian didn’t have it in him to really fight for what he wanted.

When Coco told Elsa about her plan in The New Look episode 7, Elsa turned to Pierre Wertheimer to ask for his help. She claimed that Andre had taken a turn for the worse and that Coco just needed to go to Paris to bring Andre home. Though that was part of the reason for the trip, Coco went behind his back to visit Henri as well. Both Elsa and Coco took advantage of his affection for her amid their legal battle.

Catherine Volunteered At A Rehabilitation Center

Catherine wanted to help the families of survivor

When Catherine met with Hervé in The New Look episode 7, he recommended she volunteer at a rehabilitation center to help survivors reunite with their families. This entailed Catherine speaking to the families of assumed survivors and seeing if she could provide them with any answers about what happened to them. At first, this was overwhelming for Catherine, but she knew the work was important.

At one point in The New Look episode 7, a man came to the center with a picture of his daughter who had been at Ravensbrück at the same time as Catherine. He also claimed that he knew Catherine’s father. Though Catherine seemed to recognize the girl in the picture, she told the man she didn’t know her. The father left the picture with Catherine just in case it jogged her memory, and she held on to it, even through her travels to her father’s house, where Catherine went to get a much-needed break.

After Christian left, Lelong spoke to his righthand woman, Madame Zehnacker, about Christian’s decision. He revealed that he was not only upset, but he was also worried for Christian, as he believed that he didn’t have what it took business-wise to run his own house. Lelong feared that Boussac would take advantage of Christian and run over him, leaving Christian powerless to fight back. Unfortunately, The New Look episode 7 proved Lelong was right to worry.

When they arrived in Paris, Pierre told Coco not to leave the hotel for fear that she’d get spotted and someone would call the French Forces of the Interior on her. Coco did not follow his orders and was seen on her venture out to see Henri. Somehow, the news reached Paul Wertheimer, Pierre’s brother, who held a much larger grudge against Coco.

Paul threatened to call the police on Coco, which would surely have gotten her arrested again. Though he never did, he reminded Pierre of what Coco had done to them. When Pierre then confronted Coco, she showed no remorse and told him about her plan for Chanel No. 1, certain that customers would remain loyal and side with her instead of the Wertheimers. In the end, Paul was right, as Pierre let his feelings blind him from the conniving person Coco could be in The New Look.

Madame Zehnacker & Dior Became Business Partners

Madame Zehnacker confronted Boussac

Zabou Breitman as Madame Zehnacker from The New Look Season 1

Though Madame Zehnacker assured Lelong that she wasn’t going to leave him, she changed her mind after talking to Christian. Unlike Lelong, she and Boussac had a closer, friendlier relationship, and he’d wanted to get Madame Zehnacker to work for him for years. His opportunity arose when Madame Zehnacker decided to leave Lelong and follow Christian in The New Look episode 7.

Madame Zehnacker’s one condition was that Boussac would listen to Christian and honor his vision and ideas. She agreed with Lelong that Christian wasn’t fit to run the business side of things, so Madame Zehnacker told Christian she could take care of that so he could focus on his designs. Madame Zehnacker was also able to secure the location Christian confessed he wanted for his studio. With her help, things are starting to look up for the House of Dior in The New Look.
