The New Look Episode 6 Recap: 11 Biggest Reveals

The New Look Episode 6 Recap: 11 Biggest Reveals

Warning! This article contains SPOILERS for The New Look episode 6.

The New Look episode 6 picked up where the previous episode left off, with Coco trying to navigate her financial troubles and Christian juggling the plans for his new house and Catherine’s unexpected return. The ending of The New Look episode 5 saw big changes in Christian’s life both personally and professionally. The biggest moment in The New Look’s true story was the premiere of Christian Dior’s first collection, which shares the show’s title. Though it hasn’t happened yet in The New Look, episode 6 brought the series another step closer to one of fashion’s biggest game-changers.

Though the fashion part of the series hasn’t taken off yet, The New Look characters have still had a lot to deal with in the past six episodes. World War II might be ending, but the events of the war continue to have lasting, drastic effects on Christian and Coco. For Coco, she is trying to escape her past relationships with Nazi officers. On the other hand, Christian spent The New Look episode 6 trying to understand what Catherine went through during her interrogation and time in the concentration camp.

11 Christian Took Care Of Catherine

Catherine was very sick & traumatized

At the end of The New Look episode 5, Catherine showed up at Christian’s home in extremely poor health. She still hasn’t spoken about what happened to her, but she was showing signs of trauma, dehydration, ulcers, and starvation. Sadly, even in her state, Catherine was considered one of the lucky ones for simply making it out alive.

Catherine was haunted by nightmares and struggled with some amnesia. She often didn’t remember who Christian was when she woke up screaming in the middle of the night. Christian did all he could to support Catherine physically and emotionally, though he struggled as well, not recognizing his sister after over a year apart.

10 Coco Sued The Wertheimers

The Wertheimers violated their contract

The New Look Episode 6 Recap: 11 Biggest Reveals

After Coco discovered that her business partners, the Wertheimers, were still making and selling Chanel No. 5 in the previous episode of The New Look, she decided to sue them against her lawyer’s advice. During the war, Coco tried to use Aryan laws against the Wertheimer brothers, who were Jewish, to gain full control of Chanel. She was unsuccessful in doing so, but the Wertheimers understandably wanted revenge.

The optics of Coco suing the Wertheimers weren’t in Coco’s favor. Rumors were still swirling about Coco’s Nazi ties, and the French government was determined to prosecute her. In suing a pair of Jewish men, Coco came across as an anti-Semitic Nazi sympathizer, but she was also broke and needed the money the Wertheimers were making off her name.

9 Elsa Lombardi Was In Switzerland

Elsa wanted money from Coco

In The New Look episode 2, Coco went on a mission to speak to Winston Churchill, in which her old friend Elsa Lombardi was a major, unwilling factor. The mission failed when Elsa told officials in Madrid that Coco had kidnapped her with the help of a Nazi official. This same testimony from Elsa was what the French government and MI6 used to try and charge Coco as an enemy of France.

All things considered, Coco wasn’t thrilled when Elsa showed up seemingly out of the blue in Switzerland. Like Coco, she was living in exile and looking for money. To get Elsa to Madrid, Coco had promised her a stake in the new shop she had planned to open up. Despite that never happening, Elsa still felt like Coco owed her money, and she wasn’t going to leave her alone until she got it, even though Coco had nothing to give her, even if she had wanted to.

8 Christian Regretted Making A Leap In His Career

Christian didn’t know Catherine would be coming home

Just before Catherine came home in The New Look episode 5, Christian proposed his idea for the House of Dior to Marcel Boussac, who agreed to go into business with him. However, he regretted the decision in The New Look episode 6 because the demands of starting a new house kept him away from Catherine. Additionally, Boussac was an impatient man, who wasn’t interested in giving Christian much time off, unlike Lelong before him.

Lelong didn’t make an appearance in The New Look episode 6, and Christian has yet to inform him that he was leaving to start his own house. Christian seemed to want to forget about his plans entirely, even missing an important meeting to be with Catherine. With two major changes occurring for Christian at the same time, he was left in a bit of a bind.

7 Hervé Went To See Catherine

Catherine was scared of Hervé

Despite Christian insisting that nobody visit Catherine until she was fully recovered, Hervé showed up at their apartment. Part of Christian had blamed Hervé for Catherine being taken, and it seemed as though Catherine felt similarly when she saw him. She had a flashback to the Gestapo interrogating her, where she saw another man in the room with her and the interrogator. The New Look episode 6 didn’t reveal who that was at the moment, but with all the trauma Catherine had been through, she appeared scared of Hervé, who was unfazed and promised to visit again.

6 The Wertheimers Hosted A Party At Coco’s Hotel

In The New Look episode 6, the Wertheimers responded to being sued by showing up in Switzerland and hosting a party at Coco’s hotel to commemorate the end of the war. Coco found out about the party through an invitation Elsa received as a hotel guest. They wrongly assumed that Coco’s invitation had been lost, and she was turned away when she tried to enter. She was one of just a few people at the hotel that had not been invited to the party, with the Wertheimers sending a clear message to Coco that they weren’t afraid of her.

5 Pierre Wertheimer Threatened Coco

Pierre said he’d expose Coco

Coco was eating dinner alone in the hotel as the other guests attended the party when Pierre Wertheimer confronted his old business partner. Pierre told Coco that she wasn’t going to win against them and showed that they weren’t going down without a fight either. As Coco’s lawyer had warned her in The New Look, Pierre threatened to expose her attempt to use Aryan laws against them as well as her Nazi connections to ruin her reputation and maintain their share of Chanel, if not gain full control.

4 The Clairvoyant Visited Catherine

Madam Delaaye Wanted To Help Catherine Return To Her Body

At a loss as to what to do with Catherine, Christian visited Madam Delaaye, who had been the one to keep his faith in Catherine’s return alive. Though he was extremely grateful to have Catherine home and recovering, Christian did not feel like his sister had truly returned. With Madam Delaaye’s help, they hoped to return Catherine’s spirit to her body.

At the time, posttraumatic stress disorder had not been coined, and people often did not know how to cope with trauma, let alone help others deal with it. Christian and Madam Delaaye were well-intended, but Catherine was not receptive to their help. She put an end to the session when Madam Delaaye started bringing up her nightmares and memories, specifically the mysterious man in the interrogation room, whom Catherine had never told anyone about in The New Look.

3 Jean’s Friend Visited Catherine

Catherine saved the student’s life

After Catherine’s session with Madam Deelaye in The New Look episode 6, she had another surprising visitor. When the Gestapo arrested Catherine, they had been looking for her and a group of students. Another one of the students was a young man named Jean, who was killed when he was captured, and Catherine had been struggling with the guilt she felt over his death.

Catherine didn’t remember Jean’s friend, but he showed up at the apartment to both thank her and take her to visit his grave. His friend had been the final student the Gestapo were looking for but never found. Because Catherine refused to break and give his name away, even through the intense torture, he was able to survive and live freely. Through learning that she’d saved his life, Catherine was able to let go of some of the guilt she’d been carrying.

2 The Man In The Room With Catherine Was Christian

After visiting Jean’s grave, Catherine finally remembered who the other man in the interrogation room was. The Gestapo had kept Catherine awake for days in an attempt to break her, leaving her delirious from lack of sleep, food, and water. Left in that state, Catherine had hallucinated Christian, who gave her the strength to stand her ground against the interrogator. Unbeknownst to her, Catherine gave Christian the strength to keep working and looking for her while she was gone. The New Look episode 6 highlighted the beauty of their relationship as siblings.

1 Pierre Made A Move On Coco

Pierre claimed his brother was the one who had a problem with Coco

At the end of The New Look episode 6, Pierre Wertheimer showed up at Coco’s hotel room. Not only did he apologize to Coco, claiming that his brother had forced him to go against her, but he made a romantic move. Coco took advantage of his desperation at the moment, thriving on having the upper hand by finally having something he wanted. She took control and teased him, and though The New Look episode 6 ended before viewers could see whether they eventually got together or she rejected him, Coco seems to have gotten some power back.
