The New House of M: How Magneto’s Family Could Save the World

The New House of M: How Magneto’s Family Could Save the World

Warning: Contains spoilers for Scarlet Witch #10!!

Magneto and his family typically convene in times of great turmoil, but Scarlet Witch’s recent discovery suggests something new on the horizon for them. Magneto’s clone, Joseph, turned the ultra-powerful Mysterium into an entirely new element, right when Magneto’s family is drawing together. With the X-Men scattered, and threats coming at mutants from all sides, the Master of Magnetism and his children might find the answers so many desperately need.

Scarlet Witch #10 – by Steve Orlando, Sarah Pichelli, and Frank William – finds things coming to a head between Wanda and the antagonist Hexfinder. In a final act of sacrifice and redemption, Joseph expends all his energy to transform low Mysterium into an entirely new element, called Iozium, which is revealed to have healing properties.

The New House of M: How Magneto’s Family Could Save the World

The discovery of the new metal aligns with several major upcoming events for Magneto’s family, including Scarlet Witch and Quicksilver’s upcoming limited series. All signs point to the whole family being heavily involved in possibly putting an end to the Fall of X or, at the very least, coming together for a more triumphant story.

Magneto and His Children Are Making Major Moves

The death of Magneto, Storm holding him in his final moments

Marvel is setting up Magneto, his children, and possibly his grandchildren to come together again for the first time in years. The Master of Magnetism has been dead since X-Men: Red #7 by Al Ewing, Madibek Musabekov, and Federico Blee but is slated to rejoin the ranks of his fellow mutants soon. Since it was his clone transforming Mysterium, it stands to reason that he’ll be able to pick up where Joseph left off. His resurrection already promises that he’ll help the X-Men handle their biggest threats, and his return opens the door to making even further amends with Wanda, who still considers him her chosen father.

The upcoming Scarlet Witch & Quicksilver series – by Steve Orlando and Lorenzo Tammetta – begins after Pietro discovers Wanda hid a letter from Magneto, asserting that he’s a presence in their lives even when he’s not technically their father (or even alive). The series promises the return of extended Maximoff family members, as well. Conceivably, that may include Pietro’s daughter, Luna, or Wanda’s twin superhero sons, Wiccan and Speed. Wanda has already brought Polaris in as a consult on the Iozium, and Lorna paid a visit to her sister at the Last Door shop. While there are many bridges to be mended, it may finally be time to cross them.

Magneto’s Family Is One of Marvel’s Most Powerful – And Tragic

House of Magnus family portrait

The last time the full Magneto family was together, and working toward the same thing (so to speak), they were locked into the warped reality of “House of M”, the circumstances of which ended with so many mutant lives ruined. At the best of times, they’ve been on tenuous terms with one another; there have been a string of betrayals and disappointments between them all. Yet after all the heartache and death, each of them has come into their own and found their path toward heroism independently – even Magneto, who lived, died, and will likely be resurrected as mutantkind’s biggest champion.

There is incredible skill and raw ability between them, and it’s unlikely that even the combined efforts of Orchis, Genesis, and whatever else lurks in the shadows could stop them. Max and Wanda were already on the road to repairing their fractured ties, and together the two could be the glue that at last brings them all together. As Wanda says, “As long as you are changing, you’re alive.” Their family can be that change. Magneto, Scarlet Witch, and the rest of their family possess the power to change the world, and this time they’re gearing up to do it for good.
