‘The Muppets’ Clips Feature New Characters, Hotdogs, & Pig Standoffs

Thanks to a stellar promotional campaign, anticipation for Disney’s The Muppets is sky-high right now. Pretty much everyone is hopeful that this new movie will do justice by the late Jim Henson’s iconic puppets and properly introduce younger generations to characters like Kermit the Frog, Miss Piggy, and Fozzie Bear, among others.

Three clips have been unveiled for The Muppets, offering an early look at a handful of the film’s new characters: namely, actual humans Gary (Jason Segel, who also co-wrote the film) and Mary (Amy Adams) along with their felt-made companion Walter – a fellow self-described as “the world’s biggest Muppets fan.”

Previously-released Muppets parody trailers have been keen to emphasize that this new movie features all the classic irreverent comedy, pop culture parodies, family-friendly jokes, cartoony physical gags, fun musical numbers, and self-reflexive humor that people have long associated with the characters.

However, the latest footage released from the film highlights another important aspect of classic Muppet cinema: the light-hearted atmosphere and innocent tone.

See what we mean by watching the Muppets clips below:

Muppets was directed by The Flight of the Conchords co-creator James Bobin, who appears to have imbued the former with a similar sense of fun abandonment and harmlessly energetic style as that well-liked HBO comedy TV series.

Add to that a slew of celebrity cameos, including people such as Jack Black, Zach Galifianakis, Danny Trejo, Wanda Sykes, Neil Patrick Harris, Ed Helms, Mila Kunis, Sarah Silverman, Whoopi Goldberg, Rashida Jones, and many more – and it’s hard to imagine that The Muppets won’t prove to be at least somewhat amusing.

If nothing else, at least we will always have those great Muppets parody trailers – including, Screen Rant‘s own mashup trailer for “The Muppet Avengers.”

The Muppets will open in theaters around the U.S. on November 23rd, 2011.
