The MCU’s Young Avengers: Everything We Know So Far

The MCU’s Young Avengers: Everything We Know So Far

After years of speculation, Marvel Studios has finally teased the Young Avengers coming together in the MCU. Since the release of 2019’s Avengers: Endgame, the MCU has curiously been without a superhero team, as the members of the Avengers have gone their separate ways for individual adventures. In the Avengers’ absence, Marvel Studios has been teasing the formation of several new teams in the MCU, however, including the likes of the New Avengers, the Thunderbolts and the Midnight Sons, but a number of younger superheroes have also made their debuts, hinting at a live-action adaptation of Marvel Comics’ Young Avengers.

The MCU’s New Avengers is expected to come together in Phase 6’s Avengers: The Kang Dynasty and Secret Wars, comprising many of the franchise’s new and familiar adult superheroes. Alongside the New Avengers, Marvel Studios’ Thunderbolts will introduce the titular team of reformed villains and antiheroes, and Marvel Studios has even taken the time to tease the eventual debut of the MCU’s X-Men team. However, since the Multiverse Saga has been putting focus on introducing younger legacy heroes and superpowered proteges, the highly-anticipated Young Avengers may have been set up as the perfect replacement for the MCU’s original Avengers team.

Despite introducing so many young heroes in the Multiverse Saga, Marvel Studios hadn’t given any official confirmation that the Young Avengers will actually be forming in the MCU. However, this changed with the ending of 2023’s The Marvels, which saw Iman Vellani’s Kamala Khan make the jump from the Ms. Marvel Disney+ series onto the big screen. After battling Dar-Benn with Captain Marvel and Monica Rambeau, Kamala Khan returned to Earth with the inspiration to put her own superhero team together. Mirroring Nick Fury’s debut in Iron Man, Kamala approached Hailee Steinfeld’s Kate Bishop to propose forming the Young Avengers.

In Marvel Comics, the Young Avengers first formed in 2005’s Young Avengers #1 in the wake of the Avengers Disassembled storyline. The team featured a number of adolescent heroes who had prior connections to some of the Marvel Universe’s most iconic adult superheroes, and Marvel Studios seems to be following the same pattern with the MCU’s Young Avengers members. The Marvels provided the first official tease towards the Young Avengers’ formation, and with so many young heroes already residing in the MCU, it’s possible that the team’s members could join forces in the very near future.

Young Avengers Cast: The MCU Has 3 “Confirmed Heroes”

The Marvels confirmed that the first two members of the MCU’s Young Avengers are Kamala Khan’s Ms. Marvel and Kate Bishop’s Hawkeye, both of whom debuted on Disney+ before appearing in The Marvels. However, a third member, Kathryn Newton’s Cassie Lang, was mentioned, as Kamala questioned whether Bishop knew “Ant-Man has a daughter.” While both Kamala Khan and Kate Bishop debuted in the Multiverse Saga, Cassie Lang has been in the MCU since 2015’s Ant-Man, though was aged-up during Endgame’s Blip. These three heroes may have been confirmed, but there are other potential Young Avengers members already in the MCU.

As well as Kamala Khan, Kate Bishop and Cassie Lang, the MCU’s Phase 4 has also marked the introductions of other young superheroes. WandaVision debuted Billy and Tommy Maximoff, who could become Wiccan and Speed, while Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness introduced multiversal traveler America Chavez. Loki’s variant Kid Loki is also a prominent member of the Young Avengers in Marvel Comics, as is Eli Bradley, the grandson of The Falcon and the Winter Soldier’s super-soldier, Isaiah Bradley. Skaar, Riri Williams’ Ironheart, Thor’s adoptive daughter, Love, and Prince T’Challa could also be featured in the powerful new team.

Young Avengers Story Details: What Could Happen

Since the MCU’s Young Avengers have only just been teased, it’s unclear when the team will come together, or what adventure they might embark on. However, one of the Young Avengers first stories in Marvel Comics saw the team caught in the crossfire of a Kree and Skrull battle, which could easily be brought into the MCU after the events of Secret Invasion and The Marvels. Additionally, the Young Avengers also help Billy and Tommy Maximoff search for their missing mother, the Scarlet Witch, and an adaptation of this storyline could bring Elizabeth Olsen’s Wanda Maximoff back to the MCU.

Marvel Comics’ Young Avengers team was also crucial in the development of Kang the Conqueror’s storyline, as the supervillain’s younger variant, Nathaniel Richards, became the superhero Iron Lad and was featured among the first iteration of the Young Avengers. Iron Lad has been rumored for the MCU for a number of years, especially following Jonathan Majors’ debut as Kang the Conqueror, so he could be an important cog in the Young Avengers machine. However, with Kang the Conqueror’s future uncertain, it’s possible Marvel Studios may avoid Iron Lad’s debut, but the upcoming Young Avengers team will be incredibly powerful nonetheless.
