The MCU Just Teased Shang-Chi’s Ten Rings Mystery Answer

Warning: This article contains spoilers for Ms. Marvel episode 3.

Ms. Marvel has just teased a link to the mysterious Ten Rings introduced in Shang-Chi and the Legend of the Ten Rings. The MCU’s latest Disney+ series is finally diving deeper into the backstory of the bracelet that provides Kamala Khan (Iman Vellani) with her incredible power, while viewers have started to notice connections between Kamala’s bangle and Shang-Chi’s (Simu Liu) accessories. A small Easter egg in Ms. Marvel episode 3, “Destined”, could point to the link between the two.

In the prologue to Ms. Marvel episode 3, the ClanDestines, a group of Djinn including Kamala’s great-grandmother Aisha (Mehwish Hayat), uncover the bracelet in British Occupied India, 1942, buried beneath rubble and worn by a severed blue arm. It is revealed that the bracelet is one of a pair, with the other’s location still unknown, and that it can act as a key to allow the Djinn to return to their own dimension after being exiled. During these moments, viewers receive a birds-eye-view of the ruins, which shows the ClanDestine standing on the symbol of the Ten Rings that has been carved into the ground. This little teaser could answer some questions surrounding the origin of the Ten Rings in Shang-Chi and the Legend of the Ten Rings.

Since viewers first saw Kamala’s bracelet in Ms. Marvel episode 1, “Generation Why”, there have been links made between both the bracelet and the Ten Rings, especially when it comes to their appearance. Both are golden with similar symbols written across them, both are worn on the arms of the user and light up in striking colors when worn, and both provide the user with unimaginable power. In the MCU, it is not yet known how the Mandarin/Wenwu (Tony Leung) acquired the Ten Rings, so it could be assumed that both artifacts, considering their similarities, came from the same place, perhaps both deriving from the Djinn’s dimension. In the comics, the rings came to Earth on a Makluan spaceship, but since this race of aliens hasn’t yet been introduced in the MCU, and with the massive changes made already to Kamala Khan’s own power set, it is likely the origin of the rings could have been changed too. With this in mind, it’d make the most sense if the Ms. Marvel episode 3 Easter egg was teasing at a changed origin that connects the Ten Rings and Kamala’s bracelet.

The MCU Just Teased Shang-Chi’s Ten Rings Mystery Answer

The last time audiences saw the Ten Rings, they were being tested by Wong (Benedict Wong) during the post-credits scene of Shang-Chi and the Legend of the Ten Rings and were revealed to have been sending out a beacon to somewhere unknown in the cosmos. Shockingly, not even Kamala’s idol Captain Marvel (Brie Larson) had seen alien technology like it. If it is in fact the case that both items of jewelry are made of the same technology and come from the same place, perhaps the beacon being sent out by the rings at the end of Shang-Chi was calling other Djinn, or even something darker from their dimension. This could lead nicely into The Marvels, if the location of the rings’ beacon has peaked Captain Marvel’s interest enough.

With the short Ten Rings Easter egg in the latest episode of Ms. Marvel and their obvious similarities, it’s clear that there is some sort of direct connection between the rings and Kamala’s bracelet. There are still three episodes of Ms. Marvel to be released, and a Shang-Chi and the Ten Rings sequel, that will hopefully investigate the mystery of the rings further, is already in production. It’s likely that viewers will have all their questions answered soon.

New episodes of Ms. Marvel are released Wednesdays on Disney+.
