With its release, fans got to revisit one of the most influential sci-fi franchises in film history and see some of their favorite characters return to the screen. The movie also introduces several new characters who play a massive role in the story.

While all the main characters in the The Matrix are capable of incredible feats, certain characters are more powerful than others. Whether it is through fighting, leadership, or other abilities, these characters demonstrate their strengths extensively in the film, often being integral to the plot.

Morpheus

The program Morpheus shares similarities in his abilities with his real-world counterpart from the original The Matrix trilogy, including his excellent fighting skills, which he displays in a fight scene with Neo that is one of the most nostalgic references in The Matrix Resurrections. As this version is partly based on that character, this comparative skill level makes sense.

Additionally, because of the exomorphic-particle codex that allows Morpheus to exist in the real world, he gains the ability to slip into places humans could not, which proves incredibly useful in the rescue of Trinity.

Bugs

Jessica Henwick as Bugs in The Matrix Resurrections

Through various action sequences, Bugs shows an adept ability in hand-to-hand combat, fighting multiple exiles at once when the team initially tries to make contact with Trinity. Her incredible agility and abilities in the Matrix also help her to succeed in fights.

Furthermore, Bugs is the captain of the Mnemosyne, giving her authority over a crew that plays a crucial role in the film. She ultimately answers to Niobe, but Bugs showcases her incredible capabilities on several occasions, and the mission would likely not have been able to succeed without her. Bugs’ role was something that fans were most excited for in The Matrix Resurrections because of her importance to the plot, and she shows time and time again what she is capable of.

The Analyst

As one of the key figures in the maintenance of the Matrix with a complex knowledge of its inner workings and Neo and Trinity’s roles in them, the Analyst holds an immense amount of power, using his understanding of psychology to manipulate the humans in the Matrix.

Furthermore, he is capable of implementing a bullet-time effect, which he uses to show his power to Neo, displaying the danger the Analyst could present if Neo does not obey his wishes.

Smith

Once Smith has his memories restored in The Matrix Resurrections, he exhibits much of the same strength the character had in the original trilogy, except for the ability to replicate himself as a virus.

He nevertheless proves to be a terrifying opponent, taking on Neo and dominating for most of the fight. It should be noted, however, that this was before Neo regained the full use of his abilities. He displays on several occasions that he is a formidable foe and a worthy adversary to Neo.

Sati

Priyanka Chopra as Sati in The Matrix 4

Appearing for the first time in The Matrix Revolutions, Sati has always been shown to have terrific potential. In the new film, she displays much of that potential through her role in the rescue of Trinity, proving that she is one of the most intelligent characters in The Matrix Resurrections.

She also knew that Neo and Trinity were alive and watched over them, showing part of the scope of her abilities in the Matrix. Being able to reach through the divide between her world and that of the rest of the characters with the help of technology, she is instrumental in the rescue mission through her essentially surgical work on Trinity’s pod.

Niobe

Jada Pinkett Smith as Niobe who looks decades older in The Matrix Resurrections

Niobe has always been a force throughout the franchise, and The Matrix Resurrections further shows her significance to the story. Now with the title of General, she leads the city of IO, giving orders to the captains as she sees fit to protect the people of the city.

Niobe’s undying devotion to the people of IO and commitment to doing what is best for them make her an excellent leader, and with the strength of the city behind her, she is an incredibly powerful figure.

Trinity

Throughout the franchise, Trinity has displayed a level of skill and determination that has made her one of the most unstoppable figures in the series. Once Trinity understands the reality around her in Resurrections, she can utilize her abilities once again.

With phenomenal fighting and motorcycle driving skills that help her and Neo to escape the swarm that attacks them, Trinity shows that she is also one of the bravest characters in The Matrix Resurrections. Additionally, by the end of the film, she discovers that she can fly, giving her another tool at her disposal that she did not previously realize she had.

Neo

Keanu Reeves as Neo in The Matrix 4

It takes time for Neo to once again fully utilize his abilities, with much of the film featuring him only using them to a limited extent. As time goes on and he regains his strength and confidence, however, Neo becomes immensely powerful.

With the ability to stop bullets in their tracks, redirect missiles fired directly at him, fight excellently in hand-to-hand combat, etc., he shows the power that he had in the original trilogy. Flight, however, only returns to him after the main conflict of the movie is resolved.
